Observing the minute's silence from St Paul's Cathedral to Wimbledon Tennis championships.

Our thoughts and prayers are with all those affected by and since the 7/7 bombings which took 52 lives in London 20 years ago at Aldgate, Edgware Road and Russell Square and Tavistock Square.

Psalm 147:3 He heals the brokenhearted, and binds up their wounds.

Should you believe that Jesus is God? (video 25 minutes)

Many churches believe that Jesus is God. However, this was not the teaching of Jesus himself, or of the Apostles. The few passages which are quoted as teaching that Jesus is God can all be understood in a different sense, and there are some strong positive reasons for believing that Jesus was not - and is not - God.
• Whenever anyone accused Jesus of claiming to be God, he denied it (John 5:18,19-30; John 10:33,34-36).
• Jesus tells us that he has a God (Matthew 27:46; John 20:17), that this God is greater than he is (John 14:28) and that he (Jesus) worships this God (John 4:22).
• Jesus tells us that the only true God is his Father (John 17:3), and that he is a man who has heard a message from God (John 14:1; John 8:40).
• Jesus died, but God does not die.
There is also the historical point that the New Testament contains the arguments that arose in the first century as people had to adapt from Judaism to the new teachings of the Apostles. There was controversy about the relationship between Jews and Gentiles, over whether Christians should keep the Law of Moses, and over dietary restrictions. There was no controversy over the nature of Jesus. This controversy arose much later in the third to sixth centuries as the doctrine of the Trinity was developed by the early medieval church. This shows that the idea that Jesus is God was a late development not taught by Jesus or the Apostles.
