Our confrere Fr Eddie Woo’s Reqiem Mass was celebrated in St Patrick’s Church, Soho on 25th June 2024.
Members of Fr Eddie’s family were present from Hong Kong, as were members of his community in Little Ealing Lane and the Chinese community in London together with their Chaplain and the Parish Priest of Kentish Town.
Fr Eddie was born in Hong Kong but educated in UK where he met the White Fathers. After ordination in 1969 he worked on Vocations in UK, then in Tanzania and Kenya, before returning to work with the Chinese Community in London.
After the Mass the family, friends and Missionaries shared a meal in Soho Chinatown.

Congratulations to Fr Francis Bomansaan MAfr. The Holy Father has been appointed him Bishop of Wa in Upper West Ghana, his diocese of origin.
Fr Francis was born in Ghana in 1962. As a student Missionary of Africa he worked in Mbeya, Tanzania, but as a young priest he was appointed to Poland for Missionary Animation. After a short term in St Edward’s Seminary, Totteridge (London) as bursar, he was elected Provincial Superior of Ghana/Nigeria Province. At the last Chapter in Rome he was elected as First Councillor. Now he will be consecrated as Bishop of Wa, following in the footsteps of Bishop Richard Baawobr MAfr. Bishop Richard was Bishop of Wa until his tragic and sudden death weeks after being created Cardinal by Pope Francis. Our prayers and good wishes go out to Fr Francis, a good confrere, a good priest, a good friend and a good man.

17th February 2024 Fr Jozef Van Boxel, MAfr arrived in London from Belgium for his first visit here since he became Provincial of Europe. This is certainly not his first visit because he studied Theology at St Edward’s College , Totteridge (at the MIL) in the 1980´s. This time he came to visit our 4 communities as well as our confreres who are being cared for out of community because of sickness or old age.
On 19th he led a day of Recollection and Adoration in Little Ealing Lane where we were joined by most of the MSOLA (White Sisters) here in Ealing. Next day, after a morning and lunch at Corfton Road, he returned to Little Ealing Lane, then carried on to our community in a parish in the centre of Liverpool, and then on further North to meet with our confreres in Rutherglen, near Glasgow. His visit was to listen to confreres and encourage us to live the vocation of Missionaries of Africa. He will return to Brussels on 1st March.
Thank you for coming and have a safe journey home.

Nicolas Nzirubusa arrived this week from Novitiate in Bobo-Dioulasso, Burkina Faso via Accra, Ghana to begin his two years of pastoral experience in our Missionaries of Africa parish, St Vincent’s in Liverpool. Nicolas is originally from Burundi and replaces Silvesta Daison from Tanzania who completed his two years in St Vincent’s and has now continued to study Theology in Nairobi, Kenya.
Nicolas joins Cardinal Michael Fitzgerald, Fr Terry Madden and Fr Charles Obanya in the Missionaries of Africa team/community. In another month or so they will welcome Moses Henry Ariho MAfr once he has been ordained in his home country, Uganda. The community will then be complete. A warm welcome to Nicolas from the GB sector. May your stay with us be joyful and blessed.

For the last 2 days the Missionaries of Africa, British Sector, have gathered together for our Annual reunion.
The first day was taken up by an exposé of the life and work of Cardinal John Henri Newman given by Mgr. Strange.
The afternoon was taken up with News, the after Mass Peter Smith celebrated his 80th birthday with a cake.
The second day there was an outing in the beautiful sunshine to an ex-convent Sion House despoiled at the Reformation and now open in part to the public. In the evening Chris Wallbank and Tom Cummins celebrated their 50 years of Missionary Oath, followed by the obligatory cake and food in the garden. We were fortunate to be joined by 3 MSOLA for Mass and cake.
Congratulations to everyone and see you next year, God willing.

Last week here in the UK sector we held our Post Capitular Assembly. The aim was to see how to implement the decisions of the 2022 Chapter. Given the ages of many in our sector, we did well to come together and share seriously during the 2 days. So here we go for the next 6 years.
