Fear not!

Let us never give up: there are no situations
which God cannot change, there is no sin
which God cannot forgive if only we open ourselves to Him.

Blessed Joseph Gerard

May 29: Blessed Joseph Gerard, OMI, Apostle of Lesotho (1831 - 1914)
Khotso, P**a, Nala
Peace, Rain, Abundance

A meeting with the Missionaries of Mary Immaculate kindled in him the desire to go to the foreign missions and for this purpose he entered the novitiate at Notre Dame de l’Osier. After his novitiate (1852), he was ordained deacon by Eugene de Mazenod. He arrived in the Vicariate Apostolic of Natal (South Africa) on February 19, 1853 and was ordained a priest. After some ministry among the Zulus, he turned to the Basotho, thus becoming the apostle of Lesotho.

To those who questioned him about the secret of his apostolic success, he replied: “Beyond all the secret methods to touch and transform hearts there is Love. One must love, love in spite of everything and always.” On May 22, he celebrated Mass for the last time, and May 29, 1914, at the age of 84 he gave up his soul to God. John Paul II, on a visit to Maseru, beatified him on September 15, 1988.

Novena Prayer for Oblate Vocations : Day 1
You are invited to join us in our Novena of Prayer for Oblate Vocations.
It has become a tradition that the Oblate family unite in prayer for vocations during the Oblate Novena Prayer beginning on May 21, the feast of St. Eugene de Mazenod, through May 29.
In the days that are to follow, we are invited to reflect upon our own vocation story – our response to Jesus’ call in our lives.
Each morning you can join us at 8.30am for our daily novena prayer with the Oblate communities of England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales. Each day of the novena has a different theme and you can pray with the communities by downloading the novena booklet here.
As we look to the past with gratitude, may our faith in Jesus’ call sustain us today in our vocation.
And as we look toward the future with hope, let us pray that others may desire to see the world through the eyes of the crucified Christ as Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate.
Let’s unite in prayer and boldly ask for new vocations to the Oblate religious life and priesthood. Let’s “leave nothing undared”!
