ONE MORE CHANCE FOR THE LORD

TEXT: JUDGES 16:22-31

KEY VERSE: "And Samson called unto the LORD, and said, O Lord GOD, remember me, I pray thee, and strengthen me, I pray thee, only this once, O God, that I may be at once avenged of the Philistines for my two eyes" (JUDGES 16:28).

Long-distance runners most often seem to acquire strange strength when they get to the last lap of their race. This is quite understandable. To the runner, already seeing the finishing line, the last lap is so decisive and, therefore, demands that the runner throws in everything he can muster.

As seen in our text, Samson was in the final lap of his ministry and life. For about two decades, he had been the champion of Israel. Severally, he had humbled the enemies of Israel, especially the Philistines, by his God-given superhuman strength. But alas! he fell in love with Delilah - a Philistines harlot who had a mandate to bring him down. She tricked Samson into revealing the secret of his power. The Philistines cashed in on that information, bound Samson, put out his eyes and made him grind in their prison. Thus, Samson became a classical victim of fleshly lust.

In today's text, we find Samson thoroughly abused during the Philistines' solemn festival in honour of Dagon, their god. They made a show of him. But Samson remembered his God and prayed for just one more chance to deal with the Philistines. The Lord granted his prayer, and he, holding on to the two key pillars of the huge theatre, pulled the structure down, crushing the whole assembly of men and women and dying in the process. He slew more in death than in life.

We have as much to learn from Samson's restoration as from his last prayer. Any backslider that sincerely runs back to God, even if it be by the force of adversity, will receive pardon and grace. As believers, we must be conscious of the desperate hour we are in today. We have come to the last lap of history. The hosts of hell must not be allowed to have the last laugh. Our reserved strength and preserved resources must be called up for the great commission and the challenges of the hour. We must muster our reserved strength and passion to cause unprecedented damage to the kingdom of Satan and rescue souls from his prison house.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: We have limited time to make an impact for God.

SAFETY WHEN IT IS STORMY

TEXT: ACTS 27:13-25

MEMORY VERSE: "Wherefore, sirs, be of good cheer: for I believe God, that it shall be even as it was told me" (ACTS 27:25).

Stormy weather refers to a violent disturbance of the atmosphere with strong winds, rain, thunder, lightning or snow. Naturally, living things, including human beings, avoid storms, except the eagle. The eagle is the only bird that embraces the turbulence of the storm to fly higher as it takes the advantage of strong winds to achieve such feat.

Storms of life are inevitable. Storms, like persecution, hunger, academic setback, inadequate provision, loss of close relatives, are common to believers. Storms do not signify the end of the road. If a storm comes your way, do not be perturbed like sinners who have no hope. God is aware of your situation every time. He will work it out for you.

There is safety under the wings of the Lord. No amount of storm can flush out the water inside the coconut fruit. Apostle Paul got to Rome despite the storm on his way. With Jesus in your heart, you will surely smile during stormy moments. However, make sure you are a child of God to enjoy the promise of His presence in times of challenges.

QUOTE: Do not be perturbed.

CHALLENGE: God is able to keep His own from danger.

PRAYER: Hide me, O blessed Rock of Ages.

TEST FOR THE WILL OF GOD

ROMANS 12:1-3

Key Verse: "...that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God" (Romans 12:2b).

Good doctors are never in a rush to treat their patients. The patient may be groaning in pains, yet they will first run tests upon tests to find out what the real problem is. They do this to avoid mistakes in treatment.

Children of God need to run a test to know what the will of God is before they act. Is it good? Is it acceptable? Is it perfect? If it passes the three-stage test, then it is the will of God. Your actions and decisions must always pass these three tests before your life can please God.

Don't be in a hurry to guess, speak or act; first wait and run the test to confirm if what you want to do is the will of God. What you want to do with your body, think in your heart, say with your mouth, watch with your eyes, listen to with your ears, do with your hands, and the place you want to go to with your feet - are they holy, acceptable, pleasing and perfect before God?

Any of your thoughts and actions that fails the test of God's will, should be rejected because it is not acceptable to God. That is the only way to please God. Apply the test of God's will to anything you will do today at home, school, on the playground and also in the Church.

Remember to always pause and carry out the test on every one of your activities. If it fails, it is sinful. If it passes, go ahead and do it; it is godly, and God will bless you in return.

Prayer: I pray for the grace and patience to ask for Your will in all my thoughts and actions.

PLACE OF SAFETY

KEY VERSE: "The LORD is good, a strong hold in the day of trouble; and he knoweth them that trust in him." - (NAHUM 1:7).

TEXT: NAHUM 1:7-15

During the September 11, 2001, attacks, as chaos unfolded in New York City, emergency responders guided people to safety in underground shelters and secure locations. Many who found refuge survived while others who had nowhere to run perished. Again, Japan experienced a massive earthquake and tsunami in 2011. Cities were submerged and thousands lost their lives. Amid the chaos, one of the most secure places was the high ground where people fled for safety. Those who reached the strongholds survived while those who hesitated were swept away.

In moments of disaster, a place of safety makes the difference between life and death. Life is full of storms – uncertainties, persecutions, bereavements, failures, tragedies, betrayals, and trials. The question is, where do you run when trouble comes? Our key verse declares, "The LORD is good, a strong hold in the day of trouble; and he knoweth them that trust in him." God is good and He knows those who trust in Him. He is not distant or indifferent. He is a personal refuge for those who seek Him through Jesus Christ.

Our passage, a prophetic utterance, was originally a warning to Nineveh and a comfort to Judah. While the world around them was unstable, God remained their stronghold. The Assyrians had caused terror, but they were not in control. God was. This is the truth for all generations. Today's world is replete with wars, economic instability, and personal struggles. Many put their trust in their political connections, wealth, governments, or their strength, but these fail. Jesus alone offers an unshaken platform and pillar in all situations.

Where do you run when the unexpected happens? Some turn to alcohol, drugs, secret cults, or human relationships for comfort. However, true security is found only in Jesus Christ. A stronghold is not a temporary shelter or fleeting source of comfort. It is a fortress built to withstand any attack. Jesus is not just a hiding place. He is the ultimate Source of security. Whatever storm you are facing, Jesus is your stronghold. The waves may rise but His foundation never shakes. Trust Him, and you will never be swept away.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: There is no safer hiding place from the storms of life than in Jesus.

POWER OF FAITH CONFESSION – PART 2

KEY VERSE: “And she answered and said unto him, Yes, Lord: yet the dogs under the table eat of the children's crumbs” (MARK 7:28).

BIBLE TEXT: MARK 7:24-30

Obstacles and negative situations could not deter the woman in our text today from obtaining what she wanted from the Lord. She believed that the “crumbs” that fall from the table is enough to meet her need. This Syrophenician woman did not give up on her demand from the Lord. Not letting go, Jesus acceded to her request. Her confession brought her needed miracle.

“Impossible is the word found only in a fool's dictionary. Wise people create opportunities for themselves and make everything possible...” submitted Napoleon Bonaparte. With God all things are possible. Faith is unlimited in its potential. Faith refuses to accept negative circumstance. When your situation seems awkward, negative or unpleasant, confess what God says in His word. Situations naturally around you may say it cannot be done, but faith in God will echo “it can be done and it shall be done.” Don’t be perturbed, distracted or cajoled in the face of challenges or oppositions. You will possess what you confess. Whatever happens, always believe and confess “it is well” and all shall be well. Always confess positively.

PRAYER: Father, help me to always hold on to Your Word in the face of challenges.

CHALLENGE: Never utter negative words.

QUOTE: You will possess what you confess

CAGED IN COMFORT

KEY VERSE: "Arise ye, and depart; for this is not your rest: because it is polluted, it shall destroy you, even with a sore destruction." - (MICAH 2:10).

TEXT: MICAH 2:7-13

In 2019, a massive earthquake struck Indonesia, displacing thousands of people. Entire communities were forced to abandon their homes, not because they wanted to, but because the ground beneath them had become unstable. For many, staying behind in the collapse of buildings but also in the reluctance of some to leave despite clear warnings.

Micah's message to Israel carried a similar urgency. In Micah 2:10, the prophet declares, "Arise ye, and depart; for this is not your rest: because it is polluted, it shall destroy you, even with a sore destruction." The people of Israel had settled into spiritual complacency, believing that their land and prosperity were secure. Yet, their corruption had made their very dwelling place dangerous. God's warning was clear: comfort without righteousness leads to ruin.

The Israelites had defiled the land with injustice and idolatry. Many cling to lifestyles, habits, or environments that have become spiritually toxic. Some remain in relationships, careers, or ideologies that are dangerous as physical exploited the poor, perverted justice, and silenced the voices of truth. Their sense of security was false. Yet, they refused to heed Micah's call that judgment was coming. Their refusal to leave behind what is no longer safe for their souls. When we refuse, destruction follows. Today, ignoring Israel's promptings can lead to a life devoid of His presence and peace.

This is a message for our generation. Many cling to lifestyles, habits, or environments that have become spiritually toxic. Some remain in relationships, careers, or ideologies that are dangerous as physical relocation but corrupt their faith. The call to "arise and depart" is not always about physical relocation but about spiritual repositioning. God often calls His people to leave behind what is no longer safe for their souls.

Are there habits, relationships, associations, or mind-sets that you need to leave behind? Spiritual stagnation is as dangerous as physical complacency. When a place, practice, or pursuit no longer aligns with God's will, staying becomes destructive. God's call to move keeps us in earthly security but is always for our preservation. Do not let comfort keep you in a place that has become unfit for your soul.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: No amount of wealth can buy enduring rest for it only abides in Christ

POWER OF FAITH CONFESSION - PART 1

KEY VERSE: “Wherefore neither thought I myself worthy to come unto thee: but say in a word, and my servant shall be healed” (LUKE 7:7).

BIBLE TEXT: LUKE 7:1-10

Faith confession is when your spoken word agrees with the written word of God – the Bible. It is saying what God says about your situation. God has said wonderful, life-changing things about His children. When we agree with His word and speak the same thing, the resultant effect is that it brings positive changes in our circumstances- academics, health, career, spiritual life, and standard of living.

Saying what God says about your life brings you to heights you can never dream you could reach. Therefore, speak victory and not defeat. Meditate on the unfailing promises of God. “A man shall be satisfied with good by the fruits of his mouth” (Proverbs 12:14a). Be positive with your words. Negative words attract negative things to you. Your words will either bring pain or pleasure. Your confession will produce life or death. Your words shape your life.

Therefore, choose your words carefully before you utter them. God spoke, “and it was done; he commanded, and it stood fast (Psalm 33:9). In like manner, you possess what you confess because you are created after the image of God.

PRAYER: Lord, help my decision to always speak positive words.

CHALLENGE: Be positive in your confession.

THE BLAME GAME

KEY VERSE: And the man said, The woman whom thou gavest to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I did eat.” (GENESIS 3:12)

BIBLE TEXT: GENESIS 3:9-15

God put our first parents in the garden of Eden to care for it and enjoy all the good things in it. But the devil came and deceived the woman to disobey God and eventually Adam too disobeyed. When God came down calling for man and asking why they have disobeyed His instruction, the blame game started. Each of them started shifting blame.

God who is patient and longsuffering asked the woman to explain what happened, she too pushed the blame to the serpent. If they had simply acknowledged their sinfulness and begged for forgiveness, the human race will not be in the mess we are in today. Their disobedience corrupted and made us dirty before God. We all inherited the nature of sin and wickedness. This is the reason many children often pass off their wrong doings to others. Some children even when caught red-handed will still blame someone else for their disobedience. God wants us to be humble enough to accept responsibility for our wrong doings. Do not shift the blame, repent and ask God to have mercy on you.

PRAYER: Lord, give me the courage to always own up to my disobedience and also repent.

SEEKING JESUS RIGHTLY

KEY VERSE: "Labour not for the meat which perisheth, but for that meat which endureth unto everlasting life, which the Son of man shall give unto you: for him hath God the Father sealed." - (JOHN 6:27).

TEXT: JOHN 6:24-34

Happiness is a lifetime pursuit, but sadly, it is rarely sought rightly. Youths seek it in alcohol, drugs or po*******hy and end up in self-destruction. Adults seek it in marriage, money, mansions but end up in unfathomable failure, frustration and great pain. As Solomon makes clear in Ecclesiastes, any earthly thing that you seek to satisfy the inner void is like chasing soap bubbles. You catch one only to have it burst in your hand.

Our text opens with a narrative about seekers of Jesus. Seeking Jesus is a good thing, but it is not enough. What you seek Him for is more important. The sinner must seek Him for salvation, recognising he is spiritually bankrupt without His gift for salvation. Sadly, the crowd in our text sought Jesus for temporal gratification, not eternal salvation! Jesus saw and punctured their true motive with a scathing, incisive, yet profoundly true remark: "Verily, verily, I say unto you, Ye seek me, not because ye saw the miracles, but because ye did eat of the loaves, and were filled".

The Bible is clear that our ultimate source of happiness and pleasure is God. Seeking Jesus for God's presence is fullness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore". Jesus told the disciples: "These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full" forever when we seek the Lord rightly.

Beloved, never seek the Lord for superficial motives. They are a mirage; bubbles that never last. Beyond the bread (healing, deliverance, prosperity and miracles) that Christ gives, seek Him who is the Bread of Life, the discreet to shun dispensing your life energy on labouring for perishable material things that will never satisfy the imperishable soul. "Wherefore do ye spend your money for that which is not bread and your labour for that which satisfieth not?" (Isaiah 55:2). He still saves as many as would come to Him for salvation and restores backsliders who truly repent. God does not despise genuine hunger and thirst for righteousness. "Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled."

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: It is self-cheating to seek the Lord only for material or temporary blessings
