A Celebration of Two Young Saints
Tomorrow, on 7 September 2025, St. Peter’s Square will witness the canonization of two young Italians—Pier Giorgio Frassati and Carlo Acutis—by Pope Leo XIV, bridging traditional devotion and modern witness. Their lives inspire: one through social justice and love of nature, the other through faith and technology.
Who Was Pier Giorgio Frassati?
Pier Giorgio Frassati (1901–1925) was a layman and a member of the Dominican Third Order, beloved for his fervent charity, passion for social justice, and love of the mountains. Known as the “Man of the Beatitudes,” he gave generously to the poor in Turin, embraced the outdoors, and inspired many with his joyful faith.
Who Was Carlo Acutis
Carlo Acutis (1991–2006) was an Italian teenager known for his deep devotion to the Eucharist and his skill in using technology to spread the Catholic faith. He created a popular website documenting Eucharistic miracles around the world. Nicknamed the “God’s influencer,” he lived a simple but prayerful life before dying of leukemia at age 15. His joyful witness made him a model for young people in the digital age.
A Bridge Between Generations
These twin canonizations signal more than individual recognition—they embody a vibrant message to young people around the world: holiness is within reach, in everyday life. Frassati stands as a beacon for those drawn to justice, friendship, and joyful faith; Acutis, the "millennial saint," represents the faithful use of technology to connect with God and others.
As a proud member of the Dominican family, my heart is full of joy as we welcome Saint Pier Giorgio Frassati tomorrow. His life of radiant faith, love for the poor, and joyful witness to the Gospel shines as a true embodiment of the Dominican spirit. May his example continue to inspire us to live the Beatitudes with courage, generosity, and joy.
Viva San Frassati!
