What a fantastic day yesterday supporting Lockerbie Gala and the Riding of the Marches! 🌦️ The rain stayed away (mostly!) and this year’s principals did an outstanding job — congratulations to Cornet Arran, Cornet’s Lass Robyn, Standard Bearer Gavin and Gala Queen Chloe 👏

It was especially wonderful to see our own trustees playing such an active part in this treasured Lockerbie tradition — Ian helping run the day so successfully, Lori riding in the cavalcade alongside Isla (Kirsty’s daughter), and Penny (Lori’s daughter) taking part in the parade.

A brilliant celebration of community spirit, tradition and local pride — something we are incredibly passionate about.

We’d like to wish our 2026 Lockerbie Gala & Riding of the Marches principals the very best of luck for the big day tomorrow 💙🤍

Our board of Trustees are very proud of the close connections they have with Gala and fully appreciate just how much organisation goes into the event from all of those behind the scenes. We thank you for all of your hard work in bringing the community together for this extra special day 👏👏👏 Ian will be carrying out the crying o the fair in exemplary fashion as always, his daughter will be riding, Lori will be on horseback as her daughter takes part in the parade and Kirsty’s daughter will be riding her mummy’s horse Becks up the high street! Make sure to give them all a wave 👏

📣🎉New Trustee Announcement🎉📣

We are delighted to say that we have welcomed Oliver Mundell onto our Board of Trustees! 😀 His legal expertise brings another set of skills to our team. Oliver will be a familiar face to many of you, but for those who don’t know about Oliver, here’s a little more info! Oliver brings our trustees number to a healthy 9 🙏 We are still keen to hear from anybody who would be interested in joining us to help with our fundraising and building/maintenance work 😁

Oliver is currently completing his legal training having spent the past decade representing Dumfriesshire as a Member of the Scottish Parliament. During that time, he has built strong links with the Tundergath and Lockerbie community and with many organisations and individuals linked to Pan Am 103, both in Scotland and beyond.

Oliver actively supported Tundergarth Kirks Trust during its formation and worked closely with the Trust during his time as a Trustee and former Chair of the Lockerbie Trust. Oliver is looking forward to working with the other Trustees to help maintain this important site and to continue to grow links with supporters and the wider community.

On joining the board, Oliver said:

“I am delighted to be joining Tundergath Kirks Trust and have huge admiration for what Lori and the team have achieved alongside the local community to retain the Church and keep this important site in local hands. This has not been an easy task and is testament to the hard work and financial support of many people.

“Over the past decade, I have formed a number of close relationships with individuals, families and organisations linked to Pan Am 103 and I am keen to use this experience and my knowledge of the funding landscape to help support the Trust's work.”

Huge congratulations to those who have been selected as Lockerbie Academy Lockerbie Syracuse fellows. 👏

We look forward to welcoming you up to Tundergarth and assisting with your remembrance events and learning throughout the year, alongside Dryfesdale Lodge Visitor Centre 🫶

🧡LOCKERBIE FELLOWS 2026-2027🧡

Following a rigorous selection process, ten pupils have been chosen to represent our school and community. Throughout their interviews, we were impressed by their confidence, integrity, communication skills and appreciation of the responsibility that comes with being a Fellow.

The Lockerbie Fellows programme is about much more than an opportunity to travel. It is about understanding and carrying forward a very special relationship that has existed between Lockerbie and Syracuse University for almost four decades. Our applicants demonstrated a deep appreciation of that connection and a genuine desire to contribute positively to their community. The standard was incredibly high, and all of the young people involved should be proud of their efforts.

HOMESTAYS REQUESTED:

We are happy to share that we have a Syracuse University undergraduate visiting Lockerbie for an extended period of time this month.

Mason is an inclusive education student and a 2026-27 Remembrance Scholar. He is in Scotland to learn more about the Lockerbie community, complete research for a school project, and volunteer with the Dryfesdale Lodge Visitor Centre and Tundergarth Kirks Trust. While he's here, he will be making a very special music video honouring the Remembrance community.

Mason would love, where possible, to stay with community members in the broader Lockerbie area. You do not need to live directly in town - he's interested in exploring the full region!

We are looking to support his stay from now through 20 June. If you’re able to host him for a few nights, please email Dryfesdale Lodge and Tundergarth Kirks Trustee Becca Farnum via [email protected] (or send a Facebook message to Dryfesdale Lodge Visitor Centre or Tundergarth Kirks Trust).

Good afternoon everyone on this rather dreich day! Where has the sunshine gone? 🥴

This should brighten your day... we're so excited that the extremely talented Carol Moyes would like to return to Tundergarth to host some workshops for us over the summer. But we need your help. Out of the three options below, which workshop would you be most interested in? The duration of each would be around 2-3 hours and between £30-£40 depending on what we're making (cuppas and biscuits included) ❤️

We'd love your thoughts! Thank you and can we all do a collective sun dance please? Our poor Gala principals and supporters could do without a repeat of last year 😖

Visitors may have noticed a few headstones that have had a blue band and yellow warning label on them for the past year identifying them as unsafe. It was brilliant to see these headstones being fixed today and to meet the two men doing the work with such skill.

If you visit tomorrow and notice some headstones lying on the ground, please don't panic — they are also being carefully repaired and made safe by two talented, hardworking gentlemen.

I would encourage you to stop and have a chat with them if you have the time: they're incredibly friendly and full of interesting stories.

Thank you for helping us preserve and protect these important memorials.
