📖 New Bible Study Series: Encounters with Jesus ✨

Over recent weeks, our Bible Study / Prayer Meeting group has begun a new series called Encounters with Jesus — exploring moments in the Gospels where ordinary people meet Christ, and discovering how these stories are not only from the past but invitations for us today.

The discussion has been consistently warm, engaging, and far-reaching 💬❤️, as we recognise our own stories and questions within these encounters.

In our first study, we reflected on Jesus meeting a Samaritan woman at a well 💧 (John 4) — a woman who feels weary, vulnerable, and unseen. We watched Jesus cross boundaries, initiate relationship, and stay with her. We saw that being fully known by Him is not a threat but a gift 🎁, and that His truth heals rather than shames.

In our second study, we considered the paralysed man in Capernaum, brought to Jesus by friends who refused to give up 🤲 (Mark 2). Lowered through the roof 🏠, he is met first not with healing, but with forgiveness ❤️ — revealing Jesus as the One who meets our deepest needs and gives far more than we expect. Weakness becomes a place where His glory shines 🌟.

Together, these encounters are teaching us to ask each week:

❓ What does this show us about Jesus?
❓ What does this show us about us?

We are learning that Jesus initiates 🤝, stays 🕊️, sees without shaming 👀, and brings life 🌱 — and that we do not need to become someone else before coming to Him.

Some of the questions we’ve been reflecting on together:

• What stands out to you about this encounter? 👀
• What do you imagine life has been like for this person? 💭
• What’s surprising about the way Jesus treats them? 😮
• What kinds of “thirst” do people carry today? 💧
• Have you ever been carried by someone else’s faith? 🤲
• Why might forgiveness be more important than physical healing? ❤️
• Where might Jesus be gently speaking truth into our own lives? 🪞

Next time, we’ll be exploring Jesus’ famous encounter with Zacchaeus 🌳 — grace that restores.

You are very welcome to join us.

Over the past month, Rev Powell has been preaching through the early chapters of Matthew, Luke and John. Across these sermons a few deep, unifying convictions have kept returning:

✨ That faith begins not with what we do, but with what God is doing in the world.
🌍 That Jesus is God’s Saviour, Lord, Light and King for real people, in real places, in real life.
🌱 That God’s ways are often surprising, working through the overlooked, the ordinary, and the unexpected.
👣 That faith is shaped as trustful obedience – stepping into what God is doing even when it feels strange, costly, or unclear.
🤍 That no one is too small, too broken, or too ordinary to be caught up in God’s purposes.
🔄 And that encountering Jesus always changes people – hearts open, directions shift, courage grows.

Running quietly beneath all of this is the truth that this same Jesus is the one who went to the cross, entering the deepest darkness of all, bearing the weight of the world’s brokenness, pain, and death, and opening a way through it for us. ✝️

Taken together, these sermons tell a single story:
🌟 God enters the darkness of the world in Jesus, calls unlikely people, invites trust, and begins to remake lives from the inside out.

It is a story that invites ordinary people, in ordinary places, to see themselves in it too. 🕯️
Are you ready to respond to the call of the living Lord who is still at work, still bringing light, and still inviting you to walk with him? 🙏

🕯️ What a wonderful evening we shared at our Carols by Candlelight service! 🎶

Around 180 people joined us as the chapel was filled with candlelight, music, and the Christmas story told through much-loved carols, readings, and special musical items. We were delighted to have the brass ensemble 🎺, contributions from young people and readers, and the school choir 🎼, all adding to a joyful and reflective atmosphere.

✨ Together we were reminded that “the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it” (John 1:5), as we celebrated the birth of Jesus — the Light of the World — with singing, warmth, and fellowship.

🙏 Thank you to everyone who came, took part, helped behind the scenes, and stayed to share refreshments afterwards ☕🥧. It was a truly special evening for our church and community. 🎄

🎄✨ Getting ready for Carols by Candlelight at Llanidloes Baptist ✨🎄

As we prepare the church for Carols by Candlelight this Friday, we’re also looking back with thanks on a rich Sunday together last weekend 🙏.

☀️ Morning Christmas Service
Our morning service was full of participation, with carols, Scripture readings, seasonal recitations, poems and music from across the church 🎶📖🎺. Contributions from different ages and groups — including Girls’, Ladies’ and Brass groups — made it a real celebration of Christmas together ❤️.

In a short address, Rev Powell reflected on Christmas as the story of what God is doing, focusing on the shepherds and how Christ’s light, peace 🕊️and hope are stronger than the darkness and uncertainty of our world 🌍.

🌙 Evening Carol Service
In the evening we gathered more quietly, with carols, readings and a couple of special items 🎼🕯️, followed by a sermon from Luke chapter 1.

Reflecting on the naming of John the Baptist — “No! He is to be called John” — the sermon explored trust and obedience, and how God often opens new ways that call us beyond what is familiar 🌱.

🕯️✨ Looking ahead
You are warmly invited to Carols by Candlelight 🎄🎶

✨ Two sermons preached recently by Rev Will around mid-Wales and online ✨

Two passages — one from Genesis, one from Acts — each reminding us that God is quietly at work long before we see it, and that His new day often breaks through in surprising ways. 🌟

🌄 Genesis 45:4–7
Joseph’s story only makes sense from the end — when he can finally look back and say, “God sent me.” Through family hurt, years of confusion, and even famine, the Lord had been preparing a way of life and rescue.

And when God’s newness breaks in, certain things always appear:
💛 People matter more than we think.
🪶 Small things matter — cups, carts, unnoticed details become instruments of grace.
👀 Some are given sight to see what God has been doing all along.
💔 Repentance begins, and people see a better way.
🤝 Reconciliation happens, and old divisions soften.

Perhaps such signs are quietly appearing among us too. 🌱

🌙 Acts 4:24
Under pressure and threat, the early church doesn’t shrink back — they pray. And their prayer begins with praise: “O Sovereign Lord…”

Their pattern is simple and powerful:
🌊 Praise
📖 Scripture
❤️ Renewed commitment
✋ Confidence in God’s help

Praying like this changes us — lifts our perspective, steadies our hearts, and opens us to expect more of God’s work in our world.

What a blessing it would be if, this Christmas, someone discovers a new beginning, someone finds courage to pray again, someone is reconciled, someone sees that God has been at work all along. ✨

✨ Sunday’s Message Highlights – Nov 30, 2025 ✨

What a joy to gather around two powerful stories of God breaking light into dark days — through very different people, and in very different ways. 🌟

🌄 Morning – 1 Kings 18
In the days of Ahab and Jezebel, God used both the bold prophet Elijah 🔥 and the quiet, faithful Obadiah 🤲 to build His kingdom. One stood on mountaintops speaking truth; the other quietly sheltered God’s people right under the king’s nose.

💡 Both callings mattered.
💛 God still uses the outspoken and the quietly faithful to bring His new day. 🌱

🌙 Evening – Acts 12
Peter lay in chains in prison ⛓️, Herod’s power heavy around him — but the church prayed earnestly 🙏. And God moved: chains fell, doors opened 🚪, and Peter walked free into a dawn of grace.

🙏 Even when we feel stuck or overwhelmed, God leads us forward, and our prayers are woven into His miracles. 🌈

💭 Two stories, one message:
In dark or confusing days 🌫️, God is still at work — through bold faith, quiet service, earnest prayer, and His unstoppable grace. 💖

☀️ 🙏 💛 🔥

📖✨ Bible Study Reflection – The Wise and Foolish Builders ✨
(Matthew 7:24–27)

On Wednesday evening, we gathered around Jesus’ closing words in the Sermon on the Mount — words full of honesty, hope, and invitation:
“Everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock.” 🪨📜

Jesus ends His Sermon not with a command to impress, but with a picture to live inside: two builders, two foundations, one storm. The striking thing? Both hear His words, both build, and both houses look strong — but only one can stand when life’s weather turns. 🌧️💨

💭 We were reminded that Jesus doesn’t call us to perfection, but to steady responsiveness — a life that lets His teaching shape how we choose, forgive, trust, and walk. True stability comes not from appearance, but from a heart resting on Him. ❤️✝️

As we shared together:
🌿 What foundations are we really building on — rock or sand?
🌿 What “storms” have revealed the strength or fragility beneath the surface?
🌿 How might Jesus’ words guide our steps before the next storm arrives?

Jesus isn’t saying, “Try harder,” but “Build on Me.” His invitation is not to fear the storm, but to discover the strength of the Rock beneath our feet — a life formed by relationship with the One who never gives way. 💖🪨🙌

✨ Sunday’s Messages – November 16, 2025 ✨

Last Sunday, Rev Will preached three timely messages across mid-Wales — calling us to put God first, to wait for His voice in troubled days, and to rest in His astonishing love for each “one” He seeks and saves.

⛪ Morning – “Rebuild the Temple” (Haggai 1:2–4)

Returning from exile, God’s people were overwhelmed — ruined homes 🏚️, poor harvests 🌾, little money 💰, and endless pressures. In all the busyness, the Lord’s house lay forgotten.

Through Haggai, God gives a loving but challenging call:
“Put Me back at the centre.” ✨

Rebuilding the temple meant restoring worship, prayer, and holiness — the very place where weary hearts were renewed.

💭 We too have many reasons to delay spiritual things… but God invites us to seek Him first, trusting that He brings life where our strength runs dry.

🌅 Afternoon – “Wait for the Lord” (Habakkuk 2)

Habakkuk pictures himself as a watchman on the city walls 🏰 — listening for God in a world he couldn’t fully understand.

“I will stand at my watch… I will look to see what He will say.” 👀
That watchfulness becomes a picture for us today.

God replies:
“Write the vision… make it plain,”
so that even those rushing by 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️ might glimpse His truth.

💭 Bring everything to Jesus. Wait on Him. Trust Him even when the path is unclear — and let His light shine through your life 💡 in a world full of hurry.

🌙 Evening – “The Love of God” (Luke 15)

Three beautiful stories — the lost sheep, the lost coin, the lost son — each revealing the sheer joy of God’s seeking love ❤️.

A shepherd climbs the hills for one sheep 🐑.
A woman sweeps the house for one coin 🔍.
A father runs down the road to embrace one lost son 🤗.

Extravagant? Yes.
But this is the love of God — overflowing, persistent, full of joy 🎉.

💭 Heaven rejoices over one who turns to Him. One in Llanidloes, one in mid-Wales, one whose story matters beyond measure.
