You may have already seen or heard it but the bongs are back! The clock at St Mary’s Church has been refitted over the last two days and sprung back to life yesterday afternoon. It’s great to have it back and to see the refinished face in the sunlight.

Work will shortly be starting on raising funds for ongoing maintenance to make sure it will run for decades to come.

There will be a thanksgiving and celebration service at St Mary’s this Sunday at 11am led by the recently appointed Revd Helen Dawson. All are welcome.

It’s been a fantastic 4 days at St Mary’s Church for the flower festival.

It was wonderful to see so many people there and to hear the buzz of conversation as people caught up with each other. There was a real feeling of community.

Thanks to everyone who came along and made lovely comments about the quality of the exhibits. Lots of people said it was great to see the church being used for events again and hoped there’d be more in the future.

The festival couldn’t have been a success without the hard work, talent and imagination of those who created the exhibits and the tremendous support of the team who provided cakes and worked in the church during the festival.

We were delighted by the positive support we got in terms of repairing the church clock. Everyone there was right behind us. An amazing £1,100 has been raised for the clock repair fund thanks to your generosity in making donations and buying raffle tickets. We are so grateful to you all.

Llanfair has turned up trumps again and this week’s flower festival at St Mary’s Church and Hall will be full of lovely displays.

The festival opens at 2pm on Thursday and continues on Friday and Saturday from 11am -4pm. On Sunday the festival will be open from 12.30pm, after the morning service, until 3pm when there will be a closing Songs of Praise service.

Entry is free but we hope visitors will be generous with donations towards the fund to repair the Church Clock.

Visitors will be able to see floral exhibits from 14 local community groups and Ysgol Bro Caereinion’s entry for Eisteddfod yr Urdd 2023. There are some many items that they’ll be split between both the Church and Hall.

Pupils from the school will be performing alongside their exhibits on Thursday afternoon.

Refreshments are available on Saturday and Sunday.

PS…….if you’d like to give an hour of your time to help with the refreshments or meeting and greeting visitors then please let us know below.

Happy New Year from the Friends of the Clock.

December has been a busy month for us. Banks don’t seem to want to make it easy to open new accounts for fundraising but thanks to the efforts of Sam Webster we’re almost there. We’ll soon be able to start taking donations which is an important step forward. We’ve also firmed up quotations for the specialist work required.

Let’s hope we can all come together as a community to raise the funds we need and that the clock will strike midnight on New Year’s Eve 2023.

Thank to everyone, both members of the public and businesses, who has been in touch about making pledges. We’re in the process of setting up a bank account and will give you the details once we have them.

Great meeting with the Friends of the Clock last night.

The committee is now in place and there’s a good team of positive people to take things forward. We have clear idea about what’s needed and there will be more information soon.

We’ve already had some pledges towards the costs for which we’re very grateful.
