During Advent we installed some temporary lights to illuminate the church through the winter evenings. This is to celebrate the birth of Jesus when, ‘The true light that gives light to everyone was coming into the world’.
Today is Good Friday, when the forces of evil attempted to extinguish the light of Christ. At noon Jesus breathed his last with the words, ‘into your hands I commit my Spirit’ and the sun stopped shining. To remember this, our lights won’t shine throughout Easter Weekend.
On Easter morning we plan to greet the rising of the sun on West Shore as we celebrate Jesus rising again.
For 2 Millenia, God’s message of love has renewed faith, hope and love for people everywhere. The sunrise of Easter morning is a resilient message to all: ‘The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it’.
