Abdullah Quilliam Society Home of Britain’s First Mosque, EST. 1887. Britain's First Mosque was set up by Sheikh Abdullah Quilliam in 1887, Liverpool, England.

This historic Mosque was re-opened on the 27th June 2014 after 106 years of closure. The Abdullah Quilliam Society (AQS) is a registered UK charity which was founded by the late Dr Mohammad Akbar Ali in 1997, who lived to see the reinstatement few days before he passed away at the age of 90. He along with Sister Somaya Macateer & Mr Galib Khan (current Chairman) along with a few other local muslim

s started the work to rediscover the hidden gem that lay dormant for more than a century. This history was located in the Liverpool City Council registry office for births, deaths and marriages. This building was once the site of the historic first UK Mosque, Muslim community Institution and Dawah activities led by Sheikh Abdullah (William Henry) Quilliam. Staff at the registry office would often refer to the room where all the files of births, deaths and marriages were kept as “the little Mosque” without realising the significance or history behind it. So by an amazing coincidence of history almost every Liverpool resident for a century has visited this historic building and many have had their marriage ceremony performed in it.

This past Saturday, leaders from across Liverpool came together for the AQS Grand Iftar — an evening of conversation, partnership and shared vision.

As we broke our fast together, we reflected on the legacy of Abdullah Quilliam Society and the role our communities can play in shaping Liverpool’s future.

The evening also marked the beginning of an exciting new chapter, with plans for the Quilliam Institute, the Enterprise Centre, and the Fatima Cates Centre — initiatives focused on education, entrepreneurship and community development.

Together, these form part of our Vision 2035: strengthening the social and economic fabric of our city while building bridges across communities.

We are deeply grateful to all our partners, guests and supporters those who joined us for this special and memorable evening.

It’s almost time for Eid 🤍✨

We can’t wait to welcome you to the Abdullah Quilliam Society for a day of prayer, community and celebration.

🕌 Eid Prayers:
7am • 8am • 9am • 10am • 11am
(Arrive 15 mins early)

📍 8–10 Brougham Terrace, L6 1AE

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 On the day:
• Separate prayer spaces
• Short Eid khutbah
• Café open from 7am ☕
• Kids activities + bouncy castle 🎈
• Parking available (see map)

↪️ A one-way system will be in place — please follow guidance from staff and volunteers.

💛 Reminder:
Zakat-ul-Fitr (£7 per person) should be given before Eid prayer.

• Separate prayer areas for brothers and sisters
• Short Eid khutbah after prayer
• Café open from 7am
• Activities for kids including a bouncy castle
