Liverpool Parish

Liverpool Parish A page for all who find their spiritual home at Liverpool Parish Church, Our Lady & St Nicholas - or have some tenuous connection!

We are a Church of England parish in the Diocese of Liverpool. A church has stood on this site since the thirteenth century and the present church dates from just after the Second World War (although the tower originates from the early nineteenth century). Our parish covers most of the city centre and docks, including Lime Street, the Albert Dock and the “Liverpool One” development; in total over

16,000 people live within our boundaries. Our position on the Pierhead means that for generations the Church has been associated with seafarers. We have strong links with the Royal Navy and the Merchant Navy, and sailors have looked to us as their spiritual home. The Parish Church also serves the civic and business communities in the city, and today reaches out to the increasing residential population as well. We aim to be a place of sanctuary, prayer and worship for the whole of Liverpool.

Our Lady of Liverpool honoured with festal blooms for Pentecost, when St Luke records she was with the disciples as they received the Holy Spirit, as she had years before, when she was called to be Mother of God.

Today we blessed our new flag of St George and raised it for the first time in the churchyard.
It was an honour to be joined by the Lord Lieutenant, High Sheriff, Recorder of Liverpool, and Deputy Lord Mayor, and friends from across the city.
The Rector preached this sermon.

On St George's Day, 23rd April, join us at Liverpool Parish Church at 12.15pm as we give thanks for England's patron saint and bless a new St George's flag to be flown in the churchyard. It bears the arms of the Diocese of Liverpool, and is the traditional flag to be flown at parish churches.
St George was adopted as England's patron saint many centuries ago, as a symbol of courage, a soldier who stood up for the innocent, and who gave his life for his faith in Jesus Christ.
This service will include the singing of Jerusalem, and prayers for our city, nation, and the peace of the world.
Open to all, come to where Liverpool began, by the Mersey at the Pierhead.
