Liverpool Parish

Liverpool Parish A page for all who find their spiritual home at Liverpool Parish Church, Our Lady & St Nicholas - or have some tenuous connection!

We are a Church of England parish in the Diocese of Liverpool. A church has stood on this site since the thirteenth century and the present church dates from just after the Second World War (although the tower originates from the early nineteenth century). Our parish covers most of the city centre and docks, including Lime Street, the Albert Dock and the “Liverpool One” development; in total over

16,000 people live within our boundaries. Our position on the Pierhead means that for generations the Church has been associated with seafarers. We have strong links with the Royal Navy and the Merchant Navy, and sailors have looked to us as their spiritual home. The Parish Church also serves the civic and business communities in the city, and today reaches out to the increasing residential population as well. We aim to be a place of sanctuary, prayer and worship for the whole of Liverpool.

Merchant Navy Day 2026
As Liverpool's Sailors' Church we were honoured this afternoon to welcome hundreds of seafarers and supporters to the church, as we prayed for God's blessing on the merchant fleet, the Port of Liverpool, all its associated businesses, for the seafarers of all nations, and for safe passage for all who supply our needs by sea.
After the service we made our way to the Merchant Navy memorial by the Mersey.

The Rector maintaining our links with the Ukrainian community

Ukraine's Independence Day falls on 24 August. The Ukrainian Catholic Church and Association of Ukrainians in Great Britain are two of the largest Ukrainian representative bodies in the UK, and this evening we joined local representatives to celebrate. The celebration began with the Divine Liturgy, followed by an ecumenical service of commemoration for the departed.

Thank you for such a warm welcome, Taras Khomych and all. I’m looking forward to developing how we work together going forward. 🇺🇦

We're very excited to invite young musicians to explore our new Organ and Choral Scholarships, beginning in September, under the direction of our experienced Organist Ian Wells. They offer a great opportunity to grow in experience within a church with a rich musical tradition.
Please share, and encourage anyone interested to email Ian: [email protected]
