The Parish of St Oscar Romero prays for the repose of the soul of Reverend Father Joseph Kendall, a much-loved priest and faithful servant of the Lord, who has passed away following a short illness.

Fr Joe’s connection with St Edmund of Canterbury church began in childhood where he served as an altar server, alongside his sisters and his dad, Paul. He attended St Edmund and St Thomas’ Primary School and Sacred Heart Catholic High School before studying at Oxford.

Fr Joe was ordained to the priesthood at St Edmund of Canterbury church in 2012 by Archbishop Patrick Kelly. He was the first priest to be ordained in the church in over 40 years.

Fr Joe devoted his ministry to serving God and His people with faith, compassion and humility. His priestly ministry included his service as Parish Priest of St Wilfred’s, Garston and was serving as Vice Rector of Valladolid, supporting seminarians on their journey of faith and towards priesthood.

He returned regularly to the Parish of St Oscar Romero, where he celebrated Mass and continued to support the life and work of the parish.

He will be deeply missed by his sisters, Anna and Catherine, his wider family, his brother priests and the parishioners of St Oscar Romero Parish. We entrust Fr Joe to the loving mercy of God, confident that he has now returned to the Father whom he served so faithfully.

We give thanks to God for the gift of Fr Joe’s life and priesthood, his faithful service and for those whose lives he touched through his ministry. We pray for the repose of his soul and for comfort and strength for his family and all who mourn him.

Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord,
and let perpetual light shine upon him.
May he rest in peace. Amen.

The Parish will share details of funeral arrangements in due course.
