🕊️ In Loving Memory of Deacon Rachel

It is with heavy hearts that we at St Mary’s Church share the sad news of the passing of Deacon Rachel on Sunday, 2nd August 2026.

Deacon Rachel was known and loved by many at St Mary’s. Through her ministry, she supported members of our church and wider community, and accompanied and supported us on our pilgrimages to Walsingham.

We are thankful that Fr Roger Caswell was able to be with Rachel before her passing, offering his presence, prayers and support at such an important time.

Rachel’s kindness, faith and service touched the lives of many, and she will be greatly missed by all those who had the privilege of knowing her.

Rachel, you were a true inspiration to us all. Thank you for everything you gave to St Mary’s and to our community.

We hold Rachel’s family, friends and all who knew and loved her in our prayers.

Funeral arrangements

Tuesday 25th August at 4:00pm
Reception of the Body into St John the Divine, West Worthing.

Wednesday 26th August at 1:00pm
Funeral Mass, followed by refreshments.

A private Committal attended by close family and friends will take place later that afternoon.

May Rachel rest in peace and rise in glory. 🕊️

Rest eternal grant unto her, O Lord,
and let light perpetual shine upon her.

✝️ Feast of St James the Apostle ✝️

Today, we celebrate the Feast of St James the Apostle, one of Jesus' first disciples and the patron saint of our sister church, St James's, Wick.

St James was called by Jesus alongside his brother John while they were mending their fishing nets. Leaving everything behind, he faithfully followed Christ and became one of the first apostles to proclaim the Gospel with courage and conviction.
As the Parish of Littlehampton St Mary's & St James, we give thanks for the faithful witness of St James and pray that we too may have the courage to follow Christ in our daily lives.

Prayer
"Almighty God, whose servant James was the first among the apostles to suffer martyrdom for the name of Jesus Christ: grant that we, forsaking false attractions and following Christ alone, may faithfully witness to the gospel; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen."

Happy Sunday all, We hope the town of is doing well a few things to note:

We would like to say a heartfelt thank you to everyone who came along, supported the event, donated, volunteered, or simply stopped by to enjoy the day. Thanks to your incredible generosity, we raised almost £500 from our church stalls alone, helping to support the ongoing work and ministry of St Mary's.

A special thank you goes to all of our amazing stall holders and volunteers, whose hard work made the day such a success.

We would also like to give a special mention to Coffee & Cream and Elaine Lovelock, who joined us from our local community. Thank you for supporting the event and helping make the day such a wonderful success.

Tomorrow, for the third Sunday of Easter, Mass is celebrated by the Bishop of Lewes. Do join us at 10!

We also announce that tomorrow morning Josh, who was baptised in the waters of the sea at Littlehampton, will receive the Sacrament of Confirmation.

Having been reborn in Christ through Holy Baptism, he now comes to be strengthened by the gifts of the Holy Spirit, that he may continue steadfast in faith, joyful in hope, and constant in charity.

Pray for him, that he may be a faithful soldier and servant of Christ unto his life’s end.
