RSVP – ACCEPT OR DECLINE?
In the Book of Luke, especially chapter 14, Jesus engages in many exchanges about weddings and feasts. In one particular conversation, Jesus gives a parable of a ‘banquet’ given by the Master of the house that eclipses any banquet ever seen. We can read this from verse 15 to 24.

The Master of the House invited many to eat of this banquet, but at the time the banquet was ready, some of those invited asked to be excused from going. How is it possible that once you have tasted of Christ, that you can allow other things to take priority? This is the warning at this hour. Are there things in your life that has taken the place of Jesus? Your possessions and property? Your Business ventures and pursuits? Perhaps a love for someone has taken the place of a deeper love for Christ? Make no mistake, if anything has, you need to repent and come back to Christ, because the passage clearly shows, that the Master was angry that people refused the invitation!

In response to those falling away at the end of time, the parable shows us that the Master urges the servant to compel others to ‘taste of the banquet’ and come! The time is running out and Jesus expects us to ‘go’ and preach to all about this special banquet – that is of Christ himself!!

Jesus says in John 6 verses 48 to 51:- “ I am the bread of life. Your fathers ate the manna in the wilderness, and they died. This is the bread that comes down from heaven, so that one may eat of it and not die. I am the living bread that came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live for ever. And the bread that I will give for the life of the world is my flesh.”

Once you have tasted of Christ, there is nothing more that could be better. Do not become too familiar with the things of Christ and allow your heart ever to harden. Fan into flame that what is in you and do the work required in bringing others to the ‘banqueting hall’ – to share in the greatest gift of all – The Lord Jesus Christ!

As a Church, we are going to ‘go’ pray, fast and set captives free from demonic chains and taste of the freedom available in Jesus Christ! By His strength, by His grace and mercy, we will witness wonderful things in Jesus’ name!

The Deception of Pride
The message from the world and its ‘prince’ is in stark contrast to the message of the Word of God. The prince of the world, that is satan, says ‘be proud, be who you are, and think highly of yourself! Whereas the Bible shows us clearly that the complete opposite is to be desired. In the book of James, chapter 4 verse 6, it says quoting what is written in Proverbs 3 verse 34 “God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble.”

Grace is defined as underserved favour, poured out to those who admit their need and submit to God and His Will. Pride is rebellion and leads to conflict with God’s authority and refusal in submitting to him. True freedom for our lives comes only when we recognise who we are before God and in return His Spirit and grace more than suffice. Pride and rebellion against God is what got satan kicked out of heaven, and if satan managed to deceive a third of the angels, he most certainly can convince most of the world.

Jesus is the complete opposite and is our model for humility. Everything Jesus did was out of ‘humility’ and ‘servanthood.’ As Christians, we should be looking to ask, “how can we help?”- “how can I look to serve you today?” Marriages will be transformed when both spouses adopt this attitude of putting each other above themselves and their own interests. Churches too become a place that is in stark difference to the outside world when they encounter a ‘place’ of humility, kindness and love.

God’s wisdom is found in Jesus. It is pride that stops us coming to Jesus and following Him fully. This is why, in coming to Him daily in prayer, admits our dependence upon Him and that the Church is His. Isaiah 57 verse 15 says:-

For thus says the One who is high and lifted up,
who inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy:
“I dwell in the high and holy place,
and also with him who is of a contrite and lowly spirit,
to revive the spirit of the lowly,
and to revive the heart of the contrite.

May we adopt this daily position of a submissive heart before our Great Shepherd. And we can then truly rest in that truth and know that we do not have to strive to become someone we are not.

Free in Jesus’ Name
In the book of Luke chapter 4 verse 17, we see Jesus being given the scroll of the prophet Isaiah. He reads the following and the scroll of Isaiah (Chapter 61) says:-“The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me; because the Lord hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound; To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord,” After reading this, The Lord sat down, and continued by saying, in Luke 4, verse 21:-And he began to say unto them, This day is this scripture fulfilled in your ears.” The day of setting the captives free is here! Jesus said it and it applies until that time when Christ comes for His Church – it is therefore applicable for now!

The Lord has shown us that He has the authority over everything and that the enemy is no match for what Christ wants to do through His Church. In Matthew 16 verse 18, Jesus responds to Peter by saying:- “And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.” Though there is an enemy and he will attack the church, it will not prevail and Jesus WILL have His Church!

In going to set others ‘free’ from the bo***ge of satan and his agents, we too in the church need to be set free from our own chains! The chains of religion, apathy, doubts of what God can really do, chains of false teaching that have blinded some and of course bo***ges of addictions and demonic holds preventing people to be truly set free!

Jesus says in John 8 verses 31 and 32:- Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; 32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free” and reiterates in John 8:36, “If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.” Amen!
