It was great to celebrate Rev Barbara’s 25th anniversary since she was ordained at this morning’s 10.30 service. Fantastic cake provided by Carol C and topped off by Barbara’s two daughters making a surprise appearance.

We welcomed our new curate in charge, John, and his wife, Kirsten, to our services today whilst Tom (priest in charge) welcomed his 6th daughter into the world so understandably couldn’t join us. 👶

On Sunday 5th July we will celebrate with Barbara her 25th anniversary (+1 week) of her ordination.

John, our new curate-in-charge, is ordained at Blackburn Cathedral today. His first service, along with Tom, our new priest-in-charge, will be tomorrow at 10.30. John and his wife, Kirsten, will also be at 4 O’Clock Live.

We are pleased to announce two appointments to our parish leadership team, with effect from later this month.

The Revd Dr Tom Woolford has been appointed as Priest in Charge of Leyland St John on an interim basis until 31st December 2029. This is an additional role for Tom who continues to be Vicar of New Longton All Saints.

Secondly, John Harding has been appointed as Assistant Curate to be known as Curate in Charge. John will be the minister providing day-to-day ministry in our parish. While Tom will hold overall responsibility, his day-to-day role will be mostly focussed on supporting John as training incumbent.

Tom will be licensed at a short service at Bishop’s House on Wednesday 24th June 2026. John will be ordained deacon and licensed on Saturday 27th June 2026 at Blackburn Cathedral. To allow John to finish his current role he will be with us on Sundays from 28th June and then full time from 26th July.

All are welcome to John's ordination service at the cathedral starting at 10.30. We will collect names and co-ordinate transport over the next couple of weeks.

This weekend starts the national 'Churches count on nature' week dedicated to celebrating the variety of God's creation in church gardens and churchyards.

We at St John's are joining in with two outdoor events.

On Saturday 6th June, starting at 2.30pm, come and find out what plants and creatures live in our church/vicarage garden.

On Sunday 14th June our 4 O'Clock Live service will be held outside.
