Leighton Buzzard Quakers are arranging a collection for donations to Zimbabwe and Ukraine.

These can be brought to the regular meeting on Sunday 30th and will be shipped in early Sept.

Suggested donations for Zimbabwe:
- Teddies and Toys
- Pencils, Reading books and Pens
- Reading Glasses
- Craft supplies; scissors, tape measure, crotchet size 3,4&5, knitting needles and wool

Suggested Donations for Ukraine:
- New or excellent pre loved gifts for older children, craft kits are very well recieved. Please do not wrap these gifts
- Winter coats
- Hot water bottles
- Blankets, bedding and towels
- New underwear and socks
- Baby equipment, bottles, cups, feeding spoons and sterilizing tablets
- Nappies (sizes 2 upwards), tampons, pads and incontince items
- Food; tinned meat & fish, vegetables, especially potatoes, dried soup pakets, sauces mix in packets, stock cubes, tins or jars of sauces

Following work by Lancashire Quakers, Bristol meeting have formally appologised for their role in the Transatalantic Slave Trade.

Quakers have a long history opposing slavery and were involved with the prohibition of slavery in the UK and America. However, prompted by our Testimony to Truth and Equality we shouldnt look away from the historical complexities. Many Quakers were buisness owners who profited during this period.

In honour of Mental Health Awareness Week back in May, Quaker Social Action are hosting the Big Silence.

This is an event alongside the Centre for Excellence in Mindfullness Research and will host speakers Jennifer Kavanagh; a Quaker writer and speaker, Dr Trudi Edginton; a Clinical Psychologist and mindfulness teacher and Joanna-May Sta. Ana; a meditation practitioner.

The event is 27th June at Freinds House, London and tickets are £10.

Over Easter weekend, Junior Yearly Meeting met as a community of 49 15-18 year olds and 9 adult vollenteers in Kidderminster. This community brought together young people from across Britain to come together and explore Quakerism.

The young people engaged with the theme
"In a Divided World, Are we Living our Values to Foster Acceptance and Belonging"

This theme resonates with the teachings of Jesus who many Christian Quakers will have considered this weekend. Jesus also taught us to foster acceptance and belonging, especially with those we may have differences with.
