As Jesus continued His ministry, crowds gathered wherever He went. They came from towns and villages, bringing with them the sick, the broken, and those burdened in ways no one else could see.
He healed many. The blind received their sight, the lame walked, and those afflicted with disease were made whole. But these were not simply acts of compassion. They revealed something deeper. Authority had come among them.
A man paralysed from birth was brought to Jesus by his friends. Unable to reach Him because of the crowd, they lowered the man through the roof. Seeing their faith, Jesus first spoke words that surprised everyone.
“Son, your sins are forgiven.”
Some questioned this in their hearts. Who could forgive sins but God alone? But Jesus, knowing their thoughts, said, “Which is easier: to say your sins are forgiven, or to say, get up and walk?” Then, to show His authority, He told the man to rise. Immediately, he stood, took his mat, and walked out before them all.
On another occasion, a Roman centurion sent word to Jesus, asking for his servant to be healed. He did not even consider himself worthy for Jesus to come under his roof, but believed that a word alone would be enough. Jesus marvelled at his faith, and the servant was healed at a distance.
In a small town, a funeral procession was taking place. A widow had lost her only son. Moved with compassion, Jesus stopped the procession and spoke to the young man. Life returned, and he was given back to his mother. Fear and wonder spread through the crowd.
Those tormented by unclean spirits were also brought to Him. With a word, He drove out the spirits, and they obeyed Him. Even the forces that bound and oppressed could not resist His authority.
Everywhere He went, people asked the same question.
“Who is this?”
Through these acts, Jesus was not only healing bodies. He was revealing the power of God at work, restoring what had been broken and pointing forward to something greater.
The kingdom of God was not just being spoken about. It was being seen.
