St. Michael and All Angels Church, Thurmaston Living as Christ in our community to share the love of God

Members of the Leicester Diocesan Cursillo community recently attended the British Anglican Cursillo Conference in Northamptonshire, gaining fresh encouragement and ideas for supporting faith across the Diocese.

Cursillo (Spanish for “short course”) is a well-established Christian movement that offers a simple, powerful way of deepening faith. It is not a replacement for church life, but a companion to it – designed to support both lay people and clergy in their spiritual journey.

Through a relaxed Cursillo weekend centred on prayer, study, and action, new participants are invited to explore intentional Christian living and build lasting friendships. Many find the experience both renewing and transformative, helping them live out their faith more fully in everyday life.

We’re pleased to share Launde Abbey’s 2025 Summary Annual Report, looking back on a year of growth in our ministry of prayer, hospitality, community and sanctuary.

During 2025, we welcomed almost 8,000 visitors staying overnight at Launde Abbey for retreats, quiet days, group stays and personal visits, hosted around 1,000 chapel services, saw continued growth in café visitors, and successfully launched our new website with online booking.

We are deeply grateful to our staff, volunteers, chaplains, trustees, Companions and supporters whose generosity, commitment and care sustain the life of Launde Abbey.

Clergy and lay leaders recently gathered for a Bishop’s Study Day, exploring how our faith inspires engagement with today’s social and political challenges.

From Bishop Martyn’s address on rebuilding trust in a “broken” society, to workshops on poverty, community cohesion, community organising, and trauma-informed safeguarding, the day was filled with insight and practical action.
