Leicester Cathedral is a Grade II* listed building on the site of Roman worship. The present St Martins church dates from the Norman period and has evolved continuously since then, notably in the Victorian period, but more work was done in 1927 when it became a cathedral. Since March 2015 the cathedral has housed the tomb of King Richard III. Visiting Hours

* Choral Evensong takes place during term-time. Services and Visiting Hours are subject to change. We will continue to update our website with up-to-date information. The Cathedral page reflects the work we do as the focus for the Bishop's ministry and the ongoing life of the Cathedral, and also the reinterment of King Richard III. On these topics, we welcome comments and ask for courtesy in views expressed. We reserve the right to moderate posts or block contributors if they are unable to abide by our standards. We are delighted to open a major exhibition of work by acclaimed British textile artist Jacquie Binns, available to see now until Saturday 29 September 2026.

Marking forty years of sustained engagement with the Church of England and bringing together both new and existing works, explores themes of community, connection and belonging, inviting you to reflect on the relationships, experiences and stories that shape our lives.

Many of you will already be familiar with Binns' work: in 2015, she created the funeral pall used during the reinterment of King Richard III.

The exhibition can be visited during our standard opening hours. Entry is by voluntary donation. All are welcome!

Discover beautiful work by renowned textile artist and designer Jacquie Binns, exploring the power of community, connection, and shared experiences.

Featuring both new and existing works, Unity tells the story of people from all walks of life coming together.

Did you know? Jacquie created the funeral pall that covered the coffin of King Richard III before his reburial at Leicester Cathedral in 2015. This remarkable piece is also on display in our Samworth Gallery.
