All welcome...

Join us for a memorial service ahead of Mothering Sunday held in loving remembrance of the wonderful women we have lost. This non-religious gathering will be a time to celebrate motherly love, honour their memory and find comfort in one another’s presence.

Great to hear

We'd like to thank Clarendon Park Orchestra, their director David Calow and their lovely audience for all their donations during the fundraising event last Saturday.

A grand total of £919.52 was generously given, and will be put to excellent use providing meals and activities for refugees and asylum seekers. This money will make a real difference to those seeking sanctuary in Leicester.

And on top of all that, it was a wonderful night too - so once again, thank you so much for everything to everyone involved.

A prayer for today

A prayer for today

As we mark the start of LGBTQI+ History Month, we join together in this prayer 🙏

Loving God,
Show us the way to make our worship spaces and congregations welcoming to all who seek your face.
Cause us to lift the barriers which prevent us from being welcoming.
Change the hearts of those who do not welcome difference and who are reluctant to embrace the full gospel of Christ.
All are welcome.
We are one body.
One Church.
Amen.

We pause and remember

We pause and remember

Join us in a prayer for Holocaust Memorial Day which takes place every year on 27 January 🙏

Holy God,

On this Holocaust Memorial Day we remember the six million Jewish persons whom the N***s murdered. Some names known to us but all known to you. We remember, too, those who survived and bore the physical and emotional consequences. We pray for our neighbours today, our Jewish communities who still feel the effects of the Holocaust and the fear that antisemitism continues to bring.

We remember, also, the thousands of other victims of the N**i regime. Those who were disabled, gay, Roma, Jehovah’s Witnesses, political opponents, and those who were brave enough to stand up and say that what was happening was wrong. As we think this year of the need to ‘bridge the generations’, forgive us when we have allowed ourselves to hate others. Forgive us when we have chosen not to stand up against hatred, and forgive us when we choose to forget because it’s more comfortable than remembering the horrors of what has happened.

Yesterday, today and forever you are God. Your love endures forever. We hold before you all victims of genocide and hatred and ask that you bring peace and justice. May we never forget and may we be equipped to make a better world.
Amen.

News | University of Leicester honours midwife who used personal heartbreak to improve care of parents of stillborn babies

In 1973, Agnes Nisbett suffered the heartbreak of a stillbirth at Leicester Royal Infirmary (LRI), a situation made worse by the way that her baby was taken away from her.

She turned this tragedy to good effect by setting up initiatives to help other women in the same situation. The Born While Sleeping programme at the LRI, which included a dedicated ward for mothers of stillborn babies, was the first of its kind in the UK.

Thanks to Agnes, parents of stillborn babies are able to keep physical mementoes such as clothes, photographs and handprints, as well as knowing where their child is buried.

In recognition of her achievements, she was awarded an honorary Doctorate of Science at a graduation ceremony held at De Montfort Hall, today (Friday 16 January).

The Crib Festival is all set up and underway.
A good stream of visitors today. Never very busy, but lots of thoughtful conversation around the exhibits.
Lots of reflection on the enduring power of the Christmas story.

Yet again.
The Jewish festival of Hannukah.
Yet another atrocity.
We send words of comfort and sympathy to our Jewish friends and neighbours.
Yet again, it feels so inadequate.
