A blessing for Mothering Sunday.

---

On this Mothering Sunday, we give thanks for all those who have mothered us - birth mothers, adopted mothers, foster mothers, spiritual mothers, honorary mothers, chosen mothers. May they be blessed as they have blessed us.

We also give thanks for those we have had the privilege of mothering - birth children, adopted children, foster children, spiritual children, honorary children, chosen children. May we love them well as you have loved us.

We lift before you those for whom today is difficult, because their experience of mothering or being mothered has not been what they hoped, or because it picks at grief that has not fully healed. May they know your peace and comfort.

We also hold before you those who are mothering in impossible circumstances, through war and poverty and illness and disaster. May they find the strength and help they need to persist.

We remember our Mother Earth, who sustains all of us, even if we do not always steward her well. May we learn to better care for our shared home.

We think too of our Mother Church, those communities that nurtured us in the infancy of our faith, or have become extended families. May they flourish and grow so that others may also know the joy of belonging.

And though we often name you as father, we remember that you are also Mother God, whose body was broken and whose blood was shed to bring us life. May we never forget that we are all your children.

Amen.

Read about the transfiguration over on our blog:

Matthew 16:24-17:8Then Jesus said to his disciples, “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me. For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will find it. What good will it be for someone to gain the whole w...

We're all set to welcome Year 5 from St John the Baptist School to talk to them about what makes us Baptists, and how and why we celebrate communion.

This morning we reflected on some parables of the kingdom, new blossom from old roots.

Matthew 13:31-33, 44-52He told them another parable: “The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed, which a man took and planted in his field. Though it is the smallest of all seeds, yet when it grows, it is the largest of garden plants and becomes a tree, so that the birds come and perch in its b...

This morning's reflection is now up on the blog:

Matthew 8:23-34Then he got into the boat and his disciples followed him. Suddenly a furious storm came up on the lake, so that the waves swept over the boat. But Jesus was sleeping. The disciples went and woke him, saying, “Lord, save us! We’re going to drown!” He replied, “You of little fai...

Our minister is ready for a nap after another busy Messy Play. Do you think this is what Jesus had in mind when he said "come to me and I will give you rest"?

And look at this amazing scene made out of clay. A pond of frogs to remind us to Fully Rely On God.

Join us on 27 March for our Messy Church Easter special.

Today marks the fourth anniversary of the war in Ukraine. Since the devastating full-scale invasion by Russia, we’ve been working with local and national partners to support the people and communities most impacted by the war.

Despite the terrible events that continue to unfold, we’re motivated by a mission to turn hope into action.

Join us today as we pray for the people of Ukraine 🙏

Our minister was on leave yesterday, so we were joined by a guest preacher, which means there is no blog to share. But don't worry, if you're itching for something to read, there's loads of past reflections to catch up.

Well that was another fabulous pancake day! Lots of tasty food eaten, and always glorious to hear the church full of laughter and mischief.

It's a big day for festivals, so blessings to our neighbours celebrating Lunar New Year and the start of Ramadan too.

Tomorrow is Ash Wednesday, which is the start of Lent for Christians. It is traditional to mark the day by having a cross drawn on your forehead with ashes and the words "remember you are dust and to dust you shall return", so we offer this poem by David Gate.

Our Story

Stoneygate Baptist Church is a community that meets each week for worship and fellowship. Our church building is a well-known landmark on London Road, about two miles from Leicester City centre. Some of those who join us live very locally, while others live further away.

We are a friendly and welcoming church, with a broad and inclusive ethos, welcoming everyone regardless of background, beliefs, sexuality, gender identity, ethnicity, health, or ability.

Sunday services are held at 10:30 am and are led by our minister and members of the congregation. The service includes hymns and songs, and readings and prayers, as well as a thought-provoking sermon and space to reflect. Communion is celebrated once a month, usually on the first Sunday. You can find out more about what to expect from a visit to SBC by heading here.

We proudly use Fairtrade products at our services, supporting workers in developing countries, helping bridge the connection between trade and poverty.
