Please join us in prayer for the situation in Nigeria, where two of our church families’ families are 🙏

Please pray – at least 27 people have been killed in an attack on a mostly Christian community in Plateau State, , on Palm Sunday.

The incident happened at around 8pm, when unidentified gunmen opened fire at a popular gathering spot in Angwan Rukuba in the city of Jos. The death toll is unclear, but according to local contacts, 14 died at the scene and 13 died in hospital. Not all victims are Christians.

The tragic incident comes more than a week after at least 23 people were killed and more than 100 were injured in a series of suspected su***de attacks in Maidduguri, the capital of Borno State, and reinforces the insecurity affecting many parts of Nigeria.

Please continue to lift the nation in your prayers. With Holy Week underway – which can add to the vulnerability of believers in Nigeria and elsewhere worldwide – please pray for the protection of our brothers and sisters as they gather to remember Jesus’ death and resurrection.

Please pray
- That all those affected by this tragedy will draw comfort from the presence of Jesus, ‘a man of suffering, and familiar with pain’ (Isaiah 53:3)
- That the security forces and government will deal effectively with the insecurity plaguing many parts of Nigeria, with all perpetrators brought to justice
- For the protection of gatherings over Easter in Nigeria and worldwide, and for God’s peace to overcome all fear.

Testimony Time:
At the start of the year, after several leaks, and with the knowledge that our flat roof was in exceptionally poor condition, we decided to get a quote for a new one, even though we had no money. Upon investigation, we found a major hole around what was supposed to be a run-off. Additionally the local roofer, recommended by a neighbour on Didsbury Street, said he had seen “stronger wet cardboard” than the wood around it as I watched it crumble in his hands at the slightest touch. He gave us a very good quote but we had nothing towards it! At a members meeting on 15th January, we decided to launch an appeal to see if funds could be raised. On Sunday 18th January, we started our roof fund with £20 and mentioned it to the congregation, primarily to pray, because we knew that none of us could just have a whip-round and collect the thousands of pounds required. The aim was to have the work done in the February half-term, meaning just 4 weeks to raise the 20% deposit and 6 weeks to raise the whole amount! We had faith. Some might say “blind” faith. But we knew God would provide, even though we decided not to announce it publicly. The deposit came in by 25th January and the FULL amount was provided by 12th February - praise God! The amounts were small and large; from locals, other Leicesterians and further afield in the midlands as word was passed round churches and individuals - to pray first, then give if you could.

There is NO WAY we could have done this in less than 4 weeks… we would have struggled in 4 years! But GOD IS GOOD… all the time… and He has provided a wonderful testimony for the physical work to be done… to be shared with whoever will listen… so that the ongoing spiritual work can continue in this place, FOR HIS GLORY!

So, the work has started today and will continue throughout the week. Please pray for the roofers as they work in the cold (and sometimes wet) conditions - That they would be safe to use their skills on the work, and that they would know that this isn’t just any old roof; this is the roof of God’s house and He is the One who has provided through His children 🙏

The first Men’s Breakfast of the year is tomorrow morning at 8am - Bacon (more than in the picture!), sausage, egg, toms, mushrooms, toast and whatever other goodies Pete can rustle up… All will be enjoyed in good company at the church. Additionally Pastor Neil will introduce you to an infamous Brazilian footballer (not in person, sorry) to illustrate a biblical truth in the “Blokes’ Bible Bit” for 10mins at the end. See you there 👍

For the 4 Sunday morning services in February, we will be going through the 4 chapters of Paul’s letter to the Colossians, each delivered by a different preacher. It’s the first time we’ve done this at Braunstone in at least 30 years! Please pray for God to unite the preachers for His glory and purpose this month.

Don’t weep for me
For I’ve made it home;
Through Heaven’s gates
There I may roam.
Wipe your tears
And dry your eyes;
I’m in a better place
With Heaven as my prize.
Don’t weep for me,
No tears and no sorrow;
Live life for Jesus,
He promises tomorrow.

Thank you Lord for this dear brother’s steadfastness and legacy. May You comfort his family and those in his congregation in their time of grief. And may You continue to use his books and recorded sermons to guide many people through Your Word. Thank you Lord for servants like John MacArthur.

It is with both sadness and hope that the elders of Grace Community Church announce that Pastor John MacArthur has gone to be with the Lord after 56 years of faithful ministry: https://gracechurch.org/news/posts/4230
