The Church that Meets in a Home An FB page devoted to the Biblical pattern of church meeting in a home

A little off message, but I have to say, I am becoming increasingly irritated by the number of 'bible believing christians' who are still subscribing to the myth of 'christmas'. From the pulpit they proclaim that they believe the bible from cover to cover, and yet they persist on adopting all the world flings at them regarding this festival. To be honest, I will not trust their word on anything, if they can't get this right...If I were a non-believer, I would suspect their integrity.

He gets it right....again.

I chatted to a friend of mine today. She is 'secretary' of a 'brick and mortar' church near to my home. The have a building capable of seating several hundred..with congragations around 30-40 on a Sunday morning. They recently sold 'the manse' for several 100,000k to pay for a re-wire and a new heating system. I am too old to be amazed. But not too old to be sad...

And that's only in the US...

You will never believe how Jesus spent $3,600,000,000 in 2014....

I have been very saddened by the 'fall' of Mark Driscoll, and the collapse of the Mars Hill organisation. I have been blessed in the past by his comments and teaching, though, obviously, his 'churchmanship' is not at all to my taste! I am totally convinced that if he had been assembling in a church that met in a home, and ministering 'out from' that secure relationship base to similar assemblies, this sorry tale would never have happened. And if it had, would have had nowhere near the negative impact it has had....

And, after divali we have had 'halloween'. And again we find believers 'dabbling' in activities of which they seem to have little understanding, and don't even bother to investigate. Tomorrow, 'in church' they will preach holiness. Frankly it's laughable. Hey, I'm no 'saint' (well actually I am, but I am using the phrase to indicate that I am not yet perfect!) but I know blatant evil when I see it. I heard an argument that 'it is one time in the year when unbelievers come to our homes...make use of it'....have they not read the command of Jesus? He said 'go'....not expect them to 'come'....Whatismore, I perceive that support for this festival is growing - but I guess I should not be surprised.

Somewhat 'off message' but I do wonder about believers celebrating 'Divali' or wishing folk a 'Happy Divali'. I had a long chat once with a lady from India who had become a follower of Jesus. Her advice was to avoid the festival completely....it is, she told me, 'evil to the core'...so I do...

I listened to a lovely man a few Sundays ago, teaching on those verses in Matthew where Jesus is choosing/calling His disciples..'Follow me and I will make you fishers of men'...he was using this as a basis of exhorting his listeners to evangelise more. He proceeded after reading the scripture to give us 4 or 5 ways in which we could become 'better at it'! Yet the scripture is so clear...we follow Him, and HE will make us fishers of men. The action we take is to follow....and as we do that He will make us fishermen...
I know it's 'off topic'...but thought I'd mention it!

Once again this morning on Facebook, an internationally known charismatic restorationist church 'leader' announces that a gifted musician is 'leading worship'...what happened to the Holy Spirit? Or is that systematic of the state of the church today? When men do the work that only God Himself can do, we have a problem.

This is very good indeed...worth a concentrated read.....

There is an ever present danger that Paul warned us four times in his epistles. This danger is called the basic or foundational principles of the world. He told us that we could become enslaved to these principles, that they were weak, miserable, hollow and deceptive. Why all the harsh language? Why…

This is a brief, succinct and accurate article which presents the case for ceasing to observe this divisive influence in the ekklesia. There is also, largely amongst charismatics, certainly in the UK, an unspoken observance of a clergy system. Such men and women deny the title, but assume the role. They describe themselves as leaders, which is, in my opinion, a very small step indeed from a clergy laity system....

If those who function as clergy come to conviction that this role originates from unscriptural traditions and not from New Testament patterns, there are some practical steps that can be taken as far-reaching transition occurs: As the body makes concrete changes in the way ?church? is done the emphas…
