🫙 IT’S TIME TO POUR OUT THE OIL 🫙
A Sermon from 2 Kings 4:1–7
Sharon’s Healing Room — 6 September 2026
“Tell me, what do you have in your house?”
— 2 Kings 4:2
🔥 Introduction — God Can Use What You Already Have
There are moments in life when we look at our circumstances and say:
“I have nothing.”
Nothing left in the tank.
Nothing left emotionally.
Nothing left financially.
Nothing left spiritually.
But God asks a different question.
He doesn't ask the widow, “What don't you have?”
He asks:
“What do you have in your house?”
She replies:
“Your servant has nothing there at all… except a small jar of olive oil.”
She saw the oil as small.
God saw it as the starting point of a miracle.
And perhaps today you feel that what you have is insignificant.
Your faith may feel small.
Your strength may feel small.
Your resources may feel small.
Your ministry may feel small.
But never underestimate what God can do with something that is completely surrendered to Him.
🫙 1. THE WIDOW WAS FACING AN IMPOSSIBLE SITUATION
The widow had lost her husband.
She was facing debt.
Her two sons were at risk of being taken by the creditor.
She had reached the end of herself.
Sometimes circumstances bring us to a place where our human resources simply aren't enough.
Perhaps you've come today carrying an impossible situation.
A family situation.
A financial situation.
A health situation.
A relationship that seems beyond repair.
A dream that seems dead.
A burden that you have carried for years.
But your circumstances do not determine God's ability.
Your impossibility can become the platform for God's supernatural intervention.
The widow couldn't solve her problem herself.
But God already had a provision waiting in her house.
🔥 2. GOD ASKED HER: “WHAT DO YOU HAVE?”
Elisha said:
“Tell me, what do you have in your house?”
She could have said:
“Nothing.”
And technically, from a human perspective, she had very little.
But she had oil.
Sometimes we are so focused on what we don't have that we fail to recognise what God has already placed in our hands.
What has God already given you?
A testimony.
A gift.
A calling.
A voice.
A prayer.
A little faith.
A word from Scripture.
A willingness to serve.
A heart that still says:
“Yes, Lord.”
You may think it's insignificant.
But God can take the little and multiply it.
The miracle didn't begin when the oil multiplied.
The miracle began when she recognised what she already had.
🕊️ 3. THE OIL HAD TO BE POURED OUT
Elisha instructed her to borrow empty vessels from her neighbours.
And then:
“Go inside and shut the door behind you and your sons. Then pour oil into all the jars.”
— 2 Kings 4:4
Notice something important.
The oil didn't multiply while it sat in the jar.
It multiplied as she poured.
There is a spiritual principle here.
What God puts in us is not merely for us.
He wants us to pour out.
Pour out encouragement.
Pour out prayer.
Pour out love.
Pour out compassion.
Pour out the Word.
Pour out what He has placed inside you.
Sometimes we are waiting for God to give us more before we pour out what we already have.
But perhaps God is saying:
“Pour out what I've already given you.”
🫙 4. GOD NEEDED EMPTY VESSELS
Elisha told her:
“Go around and ask all your neighbours for empty jars. Don't ask for just a few.”
Why empty vessels?
Because an empty vessel has room to receive.
Sometimes we come before God full of our own answers.
Full of our own strength.
Full of our own plans.
Full of our own expectations.
But God is looking for vessels that say:
“Lord, empty me of everything that gets in the way of You, and fill me with Your Spirit.”
We don't need to pretend that we have everything together.
We can come to Jesus empty.
Broken.
Weary.
Hungry.
Thirsty.
And say:
“Lord, fill me again.”
🔥 5. DON'T BRING GOD A CLOSED VESSEL
A vessel can be present but still be closed.
The widow had to open the vessels.
And then she had to pour.
There is a difference between having a vessel and making yourself available to God.
You can sit in church and remain closed.
You can hear the Word and remain closed.
You can receive prayer and remain closed.
But when we surrender ourselves to God, we say:
“Lord, have Your way in me.”
Jesus said:
“If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink.”
— John 7:37
Come thirsty.
Come hungry.
Come expectant.
Come with your vessel open.
🕊️ 6. THE OIL KEPT FLOWING
The widow poured.
And poured.
And poured.
The sons brought another vessel.
She poured again.
Another vessel.
She poured again.
Another vessel.
She poured again.
The oil kept flowing until there were no more vessels.
This miracle demonstrates the abundance of God's provision.
She didn't have to manufacture the oil.
God supplied it.
Her responsibility was to obey.
Our responsibility is not to manufacture miracles.
Our responsibility is to trust and obey God.
God is the One who heals.
God is the One who provides.
God is the One who restores.
God is the One who saves.
God is the One who makes a way.
We simply bring Him what we have and surrender it to Him.
🔥 7. WHAT IS IN YOUR HOUSE?
Today I want to ask you the same question:
WHAT DO YOU HAVE IN YOUR HOUSE?
What has God already placed within you?
Perhaps you have a testimony.
Perhaps you have a gift.
Perhaps you have a prayer life.
Perhaps you have a word.
Perhaps you have compassion for the broken.
Perhaps you have experienced God's faithfulness through difficult circumstances.
Don't despise what looks small.
Your little jar may contain the beginning of someone else's breakthrough.
The widow's oil didn't just change her circumstances.
It changed her children's future.
What God puts in you may be intended to bless people you haven't even met yet.
🩷 8. THERE IS OIL IN THE HOUSE
I believe this is a powerful picture for Sharon's Healing Room.
We are not gathering because a person has the power to heal.
We gather because Jesus is the Healer.
The oil belongs to Him.
The glory belongs to Him.
The testimony belongs to Him.
The breakthrough belongs to Him.
We simply become vessels through which His love, His Word, His compassion and His prayers can be poured out.
So tonight, don't come looking at the vessel.
Look to Jesus.
Don't put your faith in the person praying.
Put your faith in Christ.
Don't focus on how small your jar appears.
Focus on the God who can multiply what is surrendered to Him.
🔥 9. YOUR EMPTY VESSEL CAN BECOME A PLACE OF ENCOUNTER
Perhaps you have come today feeling empty.
Jesus says:
Come.
Perhaps you feel broken.
Come.
Perhaps you've lost hope.
Come.
Perhaps you've been praying for years.
Come.
Perhaps you need healing.
Come.
Perhaps you need provision.
Come.
Perhaps you need encouragement.
Come.
Perhaps you simply need to encounter Jesus again.
Come.
Bring your vessel.
Bring your need.
Bring your faith.
Even if your faith feels as small as a mustard seed.
Bring it to Jesus.
🫙 THE FINAL VESSEL
There is one detail in this story that we must not miss.
The oil stopped when there were no more vessels.
The question is not whether God has enough.
The question is whether we are willing to make room.
How many vessels are available?
How much room are we willing to give God?
Are we willing to say:
“Lord, fill me so that I can pour out.”
Not:
“Fill me so I can keep it.”
But:
“Fill me so I can pour it out.”
🔥 DECLARATION
I declare over you today:
You are not empty.
God has placed something within you.
Your testimony matters.
Your prayers matter.
Your faith matters.
Your obedience matters.
Your little jar matters.
What looks insignificant in your hands is significant when surrendered to God.
I declare:
Your vessel is being prepared.
Your faith is rising.
Your hope is being restored.
Your heart is being filled again.
You will not despise the small beginning.
And as you surrender what you have to Jesus, may He use it for His glory and for the blessing of others.
It's time to pour out the oil!
🫙 Bring your vessel.
🔥 Open your heart.
🕊️ Receive from the Holy Spirit.
❤️ Pour out what God has placed within you.
There is oil in the house!
🙏 PRAYER
Father,
We come before You today acknowledging that everything we have comes from You.
Sometimes we look at our lives and see only what is missing.
But today, open our eyes to see what You have already placed in our hands.
Like the widow, may we surrender our little jar of oil to You.
Take our gifts.
Take our testimony.
Take our prayers.
Take our weaknesses.
Take our resources.
Take everything we have and use it for Your glory.
Holy Spirit, fill us again.
Where there is weariness, bring strength.
Where there is fear, bring faith.
Where there is hopelessness, bring hope.
Where there is brokenness, bring restoration.
Where there is sickness, we ask You to bring healing according to Your will.
Where there is lack, provide.
Where there is confusion, bring Your peace and wisdom.
Jesus, we fix our eyes upon You.
You are our Healer.
You are our Provider.
You are our Deliverer.
You are our Hope.
We surrender our vessels to You.
Fill us, Lord, so that we can pour out.
And may everything that happens bring glory to the name of Jesus.
In Jesus' mighty name, Amen.
