All Souls' [Hook Memorial] Church, Leeds

All Souls' [Hook Memorial] Church, Leeds All Souls is an inclusive church and we do not tolerate any form of intimidation, bullying or harassment and will act against those who breach this policy. F.

We encourage our members to treat everyone with dignity and respect. All Souls' Church of England Church is an inclusive parish church in the Anglo-Catholic tradition. It was built by public subscription in one of the poorest districts of Leeds, the Leylands, as a memorial to Dr W. Hook, Vicar of Leeds for some 22 years and later Dean of Chichester. The design is simple and impressive in scale: 1

34ft in length with aisles both to the nave and chancel, a southwest porch and a baptistery under the northwest tower. All Souls' [Hook Memorial] church was the last designed by Sir George Gilbert Scott before his death in 1878. The work ws taken forward by his son, John Oldrid Scott. Of note are the font cover, painted by Emily Ford, the wrought-iron work by Francis Skidmore, the mosaic floor by Rust, the organ by Isaac Abbott, from his workshops on Blackman Lane.

At the end of Volunteers Week we give thanks to God for all those give up their time effort and energy to keep All Souls’ alive and spreading the Gospel within Little London.

We thank Mother Lynne, Colin our Churchwarden, Ann and Jan our Readers, Keith our Organist, Dave, Michael and Chris our Servers, Monica our Queen of Hospitality, Ron our Groundsman, our District Church Council, visiting Clergy and especially Father Andrew Nun, and all those who support All Souls’ in ways small and large each and every day from keeping our doors open to welcoming those in need.

Besides some input from Mother Sonia, All Souls’ is run entirely by volunteers and without their energy and dedication the ‘Hook Memorial’ would not be kept alive.

1 Peter 4:10: "Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms."

A beautiful Corpus Christi service today, led by Fr Andrew Nunn, with a wonderful sermon from Andrew Earwaker with sublime music from the Choir of Leeds Minster.

It was a joy to gather in worship and celebrate the Blessed Sacrament, giving thanks for Christ's abiding presence among us.

"The cup of blessing that we bless, is it not a sharing in the blood of Christ? The bread that we break, is it not a sharing in the body of Christ?" — 1 Corinthians 10:16
