Just discovered a YouTube channel to mark the run up to the Bicentenary of St Austin's Catholic Church in Wakefield, which will be celebrated in 2028. So far there have been six really interesting and well-researched historical talks, illustrated with great archival images. The most recent video is about the conservationist and devout Catholic, Charles Waterton: one of Wakefield's most fascinating characters! The channel is well worth a visit - and don't forget to 'like' and 'subscribe' (it's free!) as this is the way the YouTube algorithm ensures the channel and its videos become discoverable to more people!

Don’t know if you ever watched Traitors but regardless. This is something to watch……..in a
programme on BBC1 on Thursday 2 April at
10.40pm. It is called Harry Goes to Rome
and it features Harry Clark who, a couple of years ago, won the contest The Traitors. Last year he was on BBC’s Pilgrimage andone evening he said to the producer that he would like to interview the Pope and the production team took up the idea. Harry is 25 years old, a practising Catholic and a former soldier. In the programme he reveals that he hadn’t been to confession for years until he met with a nun, Sr Emanuela, who assured him that the whole point of confession was not about wallowing in guilt but about ‘communicating with God.’ To find out if Harry met the Pope you will have to watch the programme but he did meet Cardinal Arthur Roche (Prefect of the Dicastery for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the
Sacraments and former Bishop of Leeds.) Harry said it was ‘one of the most amazing experiences’ in his life. When he asked the Cardinal ‘Do you sin?’ he replied, ‘Every day.’ Would that we were all as honest.
