The New Testament Church of God is a well-established Pentecostal church, having over six million members in over 180 countries. It is one of the largest Pentecostal denominations in the world. In the United States, it reports over one million members, making it one of the nation's largest denominations. The movement's origins can be traced back to 1886 with a small meeting of Christians at the Ba

rney Creek Meeting House on the Tennessee/North Carolina border, making it the oldest Pentecostal denomination in the United State. Founded in England in 1953, there is currently over 130 branches and missions in most of the major cities of England and Wales, representing the diversity of socio-cultural and ethnic groups. We are a Church that follows the teachings of Jesus Christ and the early New Testament church. We value the Word of God - the Bible, and the standard Jesus set for us. We strive to honour, obey and love Him, and to love one another. You will find our congregation warm, welcoming, and happy to see and serve you. We are all on equal footing within our congregation–each person is valued as a family member and beautiful, having been made in God’s image.

Tonight we will be looking as we did the Sunday just gone at Peter and Pentecost. What does Peter's journey with Jesus tell us about what happened at Pentecost? And it what sense is and was the coming of the Holy Spirit a Baptism?

""No man is greater than his prayer life. The pastor who is not praying is playing; the people who are not praying are straying. We have many organizers, but few agonizers; many players and payers, few pray-ers; many singers, few clingers; lots of pastors, few wrestlers; many fears, few tears; much fashion, little passion; many interferers, few intercessors; many writers, but few fighters. Failing here, we fail everywhere.""

Black preacher William J. Seymour had established the Azusa Street Mission in 1906. There, on April 15, 1906 Jennie Evans Moore spoke in tongues at the close of the Easter service. Four days later, on the morning of the San Francisco earthquake, the Los Angeles Times reported “a weird babble of tongues” amid “wild scenes” in the mission. A crowd of blacks and whites created a long service where they sang a ca****la, gave testimony, shouted, and preached in the Spirit.

The core membership of that pioneering mission never exceeded sixty.

Yet its publicity attracted thousands who tried to enter the forty-by-sixty-foot building to see the spectacle of colored and white folks worshiping together.

For three years the meetings increased in influence. Seymour incorporated his ministry as the Pacific Apostolic Faith Movement, and published a magazine called Apostolic Faith, whose circulation reached 50,000 subscribers.

Visitors to Azusa Street included Charles Parham, William Durham, who brought the revival to Chicago, Cecil Polhill of England, “Mother” Elizabeth Wheaton, and Carrie Judd Montgomery, all important figures in the movement.

The curious behavior of the Pentecostal worshipers would have caused a stir if they had been black or white. But the fact that the Azusa Street Mission was in*******al made its meetings a public scandal.

The mix of blacks, whites, Hispanics, and other ethnic minorities in the melting pot of the Pentecostal fire is the stunning social achievement of the revival.

The movement’s chief chronicler in Los Angeles, Frank Bartleman, commented: “The color line has been washed away by the blood.”

The final message for 2025.from Beeston NTCG last Sunday was "Crossing Over" taking our scripture from Malachi 3:1-6 (The final book of the old Testament) and Matthew 5: 1-13 (The first book of the New Testament).

In Malachi despite being returned from exile God's people still suffered from a sense of disillusionment with regards to God's work, they weren't committed fully to God's programme and it was manifested in their giving of tithes and offerings as Malachi points out.

In the intervening 490 years between the testaments the Greeks conquered the Persians and sought to impose Greek customs upon God's people which resulted in the Maccabean revolt and for the first time again an independent Israel...
..that was until Rome came knocking on the door.

Jesus stepped into a land looking for a way to reclaim it's position as the head of the nations yet in His first public speech Jesus outlines not the importance of reclaiming national independence and getting Gods plan back on track but of the dangers of losing what it is that truly makes us God's people. Matthew 5 and verse 13 says:

Matthew 5:13 KJV
[13] Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.

What is it that constitutes out saltiness?

Humility, Mournfulness, Meekness, Mercy, Purity of Heart, being peacemakers and being persecuted for doing that which God requires of us.

These attributes described in the preceding verses acknowledge the difficult reality that we face as believers but they also insist that we do not let go of the hope and faithful trust we have in God to bring about the redemption of the world. All the attributes of God's people Jesus describes are the result of faith. Without faith it is impossible to please God.

How shall we approach 2026? With hope knowing that ultimately God will have his way. Even if it isn't in our lifetime and even if the world seems to be getting darker by the day, our lamps will be trimmed and burning bright, we continue in humility and meekness to live out the victory of Calvary and to share the transformational gospel of Jesus Christ. The Hope of nations and the light of the world.

Have a blessed 2026

CHARLES LYELL: THE MAN WHO REWROTE TIME TO RUN FROM TRUTH

Charles Lyell was a lawyer turned geologist who stepped into the 1800s with a very clear objective. He was not a neutral observer. He was a man driven by an agenda. Lyell openly declared that his mission was to "free science from Moses". He wanted to detach geology from the authority of Scripture. He approached the earth with a worldview already in place, rejecting the Bible first and then creating a narrative to support that rejection. His influence reshaped the Western world because he did not simply study the rocks. He reinterpreted them through a lens of unbelief and convinced others to do the same.

Yet before Lyell appeared, science and Scripture were not divided. They were allies. Ministers studied geology as confirmation of the Flood. They examined astronomy to marvel at the heavens that declare the glory of God. Biology was taught as a testimony of complex design. Scientific discovery was used in sermons to strengthen faith and defend the accuracy of the biblical record. Science equipped pastors. It fortified believers. It magnified the power, beauty, and intelligence of the Creator. For centuries, science served as a faithful witness to God’s handiwork. But Lyell broke that partnership. He pushed aside the Bible and claimed the rocks “looked old,” not because the evidence demanded it, but because his worldview required it. He ignored rapid burial. He dismissed marine fossils on mountains. He glossed over continent wide layers that scream catastrophe. Then he dragged countless others into the same error, influencing Darwin, reshaping education, and pushing entire nations to interpret the world through unbelief rather than through Scripture.

And that is where the danger lies. When one man follows his own thoughts instead of the Word of God, he leads multitudes astray. Lyell replaced truth with assumptions and multitudes followed his lead. But as believers today, we must not repeat that mistake. We should be turning to God’s Word for truth and returning to the original purpose of science. Science exists to glorify God, not to push Him away. Not to make excuses. Not to invent timelines to avoid accountability. We must reclaim the narrative. The Creator is the rightful Author of science. Not millions of years. Not deep time. Not evolution. Truth belongs to God and His Word stands above every idea that tries to erase Him.
