Guru Fateh all.

It is important to reflect on the events in 1984.

Operation Blue Star, a well-organised Indian Army attack on the Golden Temple with aid from British Government. The complex was filled with thousands of innocent civilians and activists who were leading peaceful protests.
The Sikh Genocide later in the year, whereby Sikhs were massacred through systematic killing sprees. Congress Government were heavily implicated in the killings, releasing information on Sikh families using voting lists.

We must remember, this is a recent event and one which has scarred Sikhs across the world and in all generations. 1984 must remain with us, not just in our memories but in the way we act against injustice and promote equality. See the Divine Light in all.

WJKK WJKF! * Please Read *

On Sunday the 17th of November we will be hosting a feed the homeless run. We will be meeting at 12pm in Common Ground, Leeds University Union. We are seeking voluntary donations of items such as hats, gloves, scarves and blankets to contribute towards winter kits for the homeless people around Leeds. Any monetary donations to aid with supplies are also welcome. We will be making and assembling meal bags, which we will later deliver around Leeds. Like all of our events, everyone is welcome so we would greatly appreciate your help in this seva event. Please spread the word and bring your friends along! Thank you! 🥳

This event is also part of Interfaith Week, allowing us to all come together and help those in need 🙏🏽

A huge thank you to Dr Jasjit Singh for providing us with such a thought provoking talk.

This talk highlighted that it is important to remember that Guru Nanak Dev Ji fought to eradicate inequalities in every aspect of society, at a time when no one else was.

It is all well and good to preach Sikh values but it becomes pointless if we are not practising these values in our everyday lives. We should remain socially active in raising awareness for inequalities present today.

It is our job to challenge and question cultural norms when they are going against Gurbani. Guru Nanak Dev Ji consistently stood up to patriarchal, capitalist, and racist values - striving for equality in every sense. He refused to conform to norms which meant that only the most powerful in society were treated with respect and dignity.

Furthermore, we must remember to not just speak up for ‘Sikh’ causes, but to help disadvantaged groups of all kinds regardless of race, nationality, or religion.

We hope that on Guru Nanak’s 550th Gurpurab we all take time to remember his courage and integrity. We should practice the values that Gurbani teaches us so that we can create a fairer and safer society🙏🏽

!WJKK WJKF!

As Guru Nanak’s 550th Gurpurab approaches please join us for an inspiring talk, that allows us to take time to reflect on the teachings and legacy of Guru Nanak Dev Ji.

This talk is not to be missed! It is important in today’s society we remain socially and ethically aware in order to help us stand up to injustices we or others may face. We encourage you to always question your own behaviour and ensure that your actions have a positive impact on society with regards to Sikhi. This talk aims to provide all with the inspiration and guidance to do these things 🙏🏽🧡
