A good time was had by all at our Sketch Walk last week, as we celebrated Refugee Week! It was so good to learn about our city's history of welcome and sanctuary, and the positive impact that those seeking sanctuary have had in our city.

Our HYVH group for young adults enjoyed their Circus Party a couple of weeks ago. This was the result of several sessions of planning and prep - thinking about the decor, food and drink, and costumes and make-up.

Do you know someone who might benefit from being part of HYVH? Find out more on our website: https://bit.ly/4bJbcLf

A few weeks ago, Eleanor hosted a Circus Party for our Have Your Voice Heard (HYVH) group...

"One of the most wholesome parts of our HYVH party was watching everyone (me and Shelby, our volunteer, included) turn into big kids to play with balloons!

"It was an opportunity for our members to connect with a younger version of themselves in a shame free environment. It’s important for young adults to get a break from their usual responsibilities and be silly, with no judgement, expectations or “doing it wrong”. Small moments of joy can help to sustain or improve mental wellbeing, even if it’s only for the time that they’re in the session.”

We're grateful to the National Lottery Community Fund for their support of this group. Find out how you can support it on our website: https://bit.ly/4bJbcLf

Recently Judith listened to a lady share her heartbreaking story of family breakdown, illness and homelessness. She had no place to stay that night.

“As she spoke, I found myself desperately wanting to help in some practical way, but also felt frustration that the reality was there was little I could actually do. I wondered what I could possibly say that might make a difference. Before I had the chance to respond, she thanked me. She said that simply being listened to meant something to her - she felt heard and believed.

“It was a gentle but powerful reminder that so often it's not about doing, but about being.”
