It’s a great thing to be ambitious, competitive and even driven. However, such a nature can cost us good relationships if we are not careful enough, in our desire to achieve, to avoid looking down upon others, especially those who might support us. It is easy to believe that nobody except yourself wants you to succeed and sadly, the devil traps many along this line of thought, when in fact, God has strategically placed people around us for more positive relationships and outcomes.
Not everybody is going to be with us or for us in life, but we must avoid being ignorant of the good that those who have stood with us in the past have done. That in itself (ingratitude) is a snare that blocks God’s blessing. The trap of the devil is also a heightened materialistic desire and approach to life. In being ambitious many become married to things, or the desire of them.
Without self scrutiny as well as the occasional spiritual checks and balances, this will almost always mean we end up putting ourselves first, something that the world in these modern times that we live, strongly advocates for and even encourages. You hear people talk of “ it’s a dog eat dog world” or “survival of the fittest”
It may appear contextually correct, but I want you to know that without deeper examination and introspection, it is largely a world approach, very secular and contrary to God’s Kingdom culture.
Be careful of this “self love” culture if it comes at the expense of Kingdom principles. While the Lord requires us to love our neighbours as ourselves, emphasis should be on loving our neighbours with the same love we would expect to be extended to us.
What is the take-home message the Lord has for us today? Let us constantly and consistently put others needs before our own, let Kingdom culture govern how we approach everyday life and finally, let’s remain humble (Remember the Word the Lord gives us in Matthew 6:33?). This makes us vessels of God.
When you do this, the King of Kings, seated on His throne in the Lord’s Kingdom (as well as inside of you) sees and knows your heart full of faith, is glad that you are seeking after Him, and He rewards you beyond what your own natural efforts can do for yourself(Hebrews 11:6).
