Wesley Cottage, Trewint, Cornwall A Methodist heritage museum offering hospitality and telling the story of John Wesley in Cornwall Welcome to the page for Wesley Cottage Methodist Museum.

This is a very special place with much spiritual and historic significance for Methodism, particularly here in Cornwall. It was here that John Wesley and his travelling companions found Christian welcome and hospitality, a place to rest and be refreshed on his many journeys to preach the gospel in Cornwall. All are welcome to visit and experience the Prophet's Chamber with the smallest place of wo

rship in the UK and the bedroom where John and his companions would have stayed. Visits from individuals and groups are warmly welcomed. Please do get in touch if you'd like to come and see us, or indeed if you'd like to know more about the place, our faith, the mission and God's love for all. It was a pleasure to welcome a group from Coads Green Methodist Church and other various places to Wesley Cottage today.
We spent the day studying and reflecting on prayer, in particular The Lord’s Prayer. Needless to say, there was plenty of time to put what we learnt into practice.
As preacher and author S.D. Gordon wrote: “The greatest thing anyone can do for God and man is pray. It is not the only thing; but it is the chief thing. The great people of the earth today are the people who pray. I do not mean those who talk about prayer; nor those who say they believe in prayer; nor yet those who can explain about prayer; but I mean those people who take time to pray. They have not time. It must be taken from something else. This something else is important, very important, and pressing, but still less important and less pressing than prayer.”

We know that we can pray anywhere and at any time. However, Wesley Cottage is a great place for a prayer/Bible study retreat. Why not bring YOUR group? We can organise a programme for you, or you can arrange it for yourself. Please email [email protected] for more details.

It was lovely to welcome Andy, among others, to Wesley Cottage today. His visit should also help quell the rumours that you can only visit if you are below 5ft 5in!
Andy, standing well over 6ft, is probably the tallest visitor to the cottage so far this summer. But he successfully negotiated all the low ceilings and doorways!
Don’t forget we are open on Fridays and every other day of the year by arrangement. All are welcome – including anyone over 6ft 4in (though you might wish to bring a crash helmet)!

We were delighted to welcome visitors all the way from India recently. Needless to say, they didn't travel some 5,000 miles JUST to see Wesley Cottage (though, of course, it would have still been worth their effort if they had done so😉). The group were from the Orissa Christian Theological College; their West Country tour arranged as part of the partnership between the SW Peninsula Methodist District and Diocese of Cuttack, N. India.
We always enjoy welcoming overseas visitors; we also had guests from Norway, America and Canada last month. We wonder if any further visitors this summer will travel more than 5,000 miles to get here? Of course, John Wesley himself clocked up a few miles. It is said he travelled the equivalent of ten times round the globe during his lifetime...on horseback, don't forget!

It was on this day (May 30) in 1860 that John Boot died.
Who was John Boot and what has he got to do with John Wesley, I hear you say?
Well, John Wesley cared not only about spiritual health, but also physical health and wrote a best-selling medical guide called ‘Primitive Physick’.
Inspired by the book, John Boot, a Methodist, set up a shop to sell medicinal herbal remedies. The shop took off and eventually became…well, do I need to tell you?
So, next time you buy something in Boots, you might like to consider the very important role John Wesley had in this very famous British institution.
Why not visit Wesley Cottage to discover more stories like this? We are open every Friday (10am to 4pm) and every other day by arrangement (email [email protected])😀

What an amazing few days we've had at Wesley Cottage! Thank you to all those who braved the heat to attend our annual Preach from the Porch event yesterday. We would also like to thank all those who helped out in some way. It was much appreciated.
And it was also lovely to welcome overseas visitors to the cottage on Friday and Saturday. We had guests from Canada and then a group from Cuttack, India.
And, for those who know the story of Wesley Cottage, we were also delighted to welcome some descendants of Digory and Elizabeth Isbell!
For those who don't know the story, why not pay a visit to the cottage this Friday? We're open from 10am to 4pm.

Our annual Preach from the Porch event is now just a few days away. If you haven’t been before, you might be wondering what it’s all about. Well, John Wesley famously preached in the open air throughout Britain. One of those places was at Trewint.
So, in the tradition of Wesley himself, we invite a preacher to do the same as part of Wesley Day (or Aldersgate Day) – the day Methodists celebrate the ‘evangelical’ conversion of John Wesley.
This year, on May 24th (4pm), the Revd Dr Gareth Higgs will be doing just what Wesley and many other early Methodist preachers did in the 18th century – preaching from the stone porch of Wesley Cottage, Trewint.
Our service is open to all – not just Methodists…and not just believers. Wesley preached to anyone who was willing to listen.
So, please do join us in the garden of Wesley Cottage – rain or shine – though the weather forecast for Sunday is looking good; you might need a hat and your suncream!
There will be another service at St Nonna’s Church, Altarnun at 7pm. In between both services, you are also invited to tea at St Nonna’s Church Hall where we will be entertained by Callington Community Gospel Choir.
If you would like more details about the day, please do email [email protected] or call 07754 558276.

Introducing the Revd Dr Gareth Higgs…
We are delighted to announce that Gareth will be the preacher for our annual PREACH FROM THE PORCH event at Trewint this Sunday (4pm) and again during the evening service at St Nonna’s Church, Altarnun (7pm).
Now working as a lecturer in Applied Theology at Moorlands Bible College in Dorset, Gareth is no stranger to this part of the world, having most latterly served as Superintendent Minister of Plymouth Methodist Central Hall.
Gareth has enjoyed a 20-year career in congregational ministry with the Methodist Church.
We look forward to welcoming Gareth this Sunday.
