First Larne Presbyterian Church

First Larne Presbyterian Church We are here to Worship God, Build His church and Share His Love We are one of the oldest congregations in the Presbyterian Church..."

So says the official History of Congregations in the Presbyterian Church in Ireland. We are conscious that for almost 400 years our forbears have met many challenges to life, livelihood and religious liberty in order to keep the flame of our distinctive Reformed worship and witness burning brightly. We hope we will not be found wanting in our generation when it comes to vision and dedication! Ther

efore we strive to be a congregational family which is welcoming and relevant to the challenges of our context. In our fellowship, Bible exploration and exposition we are in the business of growing disciples for the 21st century!

What a morning, what a team, what a school! Thanks to Ben (First Larne Presbyterian Church), Lorin and Dave (Larne Congregational Church) and Diana (Larne Methodist Circuit) for leading us through the Its Your Move workshop this morning! We even got some toast made for us by pupils at break time! We look forward to seeing the pupils of Olderfleet Primary School thrive at their new post primary schools!

As we all loosen our belts to enjoy the coffee mornings, soup lunches and cooked breakfast events that raise so much money for Christian Aid Week, please spare a thought for the incredible Canon Stuart Lloyd who is planning a 72-hour fast instead.

Canon Lloyd will abstain from all food and only drink water, starting at 8pm on Wednesday 13 May until 8pm on Saturday 16 May.

His fast will be sponsored by the parishioners of St Patrick's Parish Church, Broughshane, County Antrim, the church he joined after retiring as rector of nearby Ballymena Parish where he served for 27 years.

During business hours on each of his three fast days, Canon Lloyd will sit in the mall outside James McNeill Grocery and hardware shops in Broughshane, collecting donations and raising awareness of the work of Christian Aid.

This will be the fifth year that Canon Lloyd has completed a 72-hour fast to mark Christian Aid Week. The previous four fasts have raised a total of almost Β£10,000.

We are extremely grateful to Canon Lloyd for his self-sacrifice and to everyone who sponsors his effort.
