This week Fr John took a group of our parishioners on retreat to Ampleforth Abbey. We are very grateful to the welcome given our parish by the monastic community and the spiritual guidance shared by Fr Christopher. Some of us also visited the former home of St Aelred, Rievaulx Abbey, which was destroyed at the reformation.

MAY PROCESSION πŸ”΅

Yesterday, we had our May Procession at the end of Mass to honour and ask the intercession of Mary, Mother of God and our Mother, in this month of May which is dedicated to her.
We continue to ask Mary's prayers for us and all those we know and love, trusting that she will lead us to her son.

Mary, Queen of the Angels and Queen of the May, pray for us!

MARTYRS PILGRIMAGE PT 1 πŸ”΄

On the feast of the English Martyrs (4th May) pilgrims from all across the diocese gathered at Lancaster Castle to make a pilgrimage in the footsteps of the Lancaster Martyrs up to the Martyrs Memorial by Williamson Park. It was led by Bishop Paul Swarbrick and we also thank the Anglican Bishop of Blackburn, the Right Reverend Philip North, for joining us on the pilgrimage too.

After a service at the Martyrs Memorial, we celebrated Mass, again led by Bishop Paul Swarbrick, at the Cathedral. We thank God for a wonderful occasion and for all who attended.

Our volunteers have been working hard to improve the surroundings of our cathedral. Here they have cleared weeds, brambles and loads of fly tipping from the side of the cathedral social centre. Our volunteer gardeners have laid this new path and have started planting. Thank you so much for your hard work!

ANN FENWICK MEMORIAL MASS PT 2

Some more photos from the occasion of the memorial Mass for Ann Fenwick on 28th April. We thank God for the opportunity to celebrate Mass at St. Wilfrid's, Melling, and for the life, example, and sacrifices of Ann Fenwick so that Catholics would enjoy the freedoms they do now. Thanks to all who helped make the occasion such a wonderful celebration.

πŸ“· Thanks again to Ben O'Flynn and for the photos!

ANN FENWICK MEMORIAL MASS PT. 1

On Tuesday 28th April, we celebrated a memorial Mass for Ann Fenwick, founder of the Catholic Mission in Hornby and the Lune Valley. It was her dying wish that Mass be celebrated for the repose of her soul and this was the first time this had been celebrated at the church she is buried in, St. Wilfrid's, Melling, as well as the first Mass celebrated in St. Wilfrid's since the Reformation. It was a truly historic and special occasion, for which we would like to thank the parish in Melling and everyone who attended.

Join us for our annual Lancaster Martyrs pilgrimage this bank holiday Monday!

We will meet for a walking pilgrimage at Lancaster Castle, during which the clergy will lead us in prayer, reflection, and the history of the Lancaster Martyrs. This will be followed by Mass celebrated by Bishop Paul Swarbrick at 12:15.

All are welcome and we'd love to see you there!
