❓ Why think about estate planning?

When you die, your estate may be subject to Inheritance Tax or Capital Gains Tax.

Through professional estate planning, you can minimise the tax bills your loved ones will receive to make sure that your estate benefits the people you care about most.

Estate planning and making a will gives you comfort that your affairs are in order, that your loved ones will know what to expect and will help you to provide long-term financial security for your family, saving time and legal costs further down the line.

We're delighted to announce that Knutsford Cemetery has been awarded the Green Flag - the international quality mark for the management of parks and green spaces.

“Attaining the award is testament to the quality of management the Town Council has instigated, through our cemetery working group, since we took back its operation two years ago. The award particularly recognises the work of our Cemetery Groundskeeper, Fergal Owens, who has worked incredibly hard to improve the quality of grounds maintenance and our Planning and Facilities Officer Bob Allen who has put in place strong management practices” said Town Mayor, Cllr Mike Houghton.

This week is Commonwealth War Graves Week. Many of the men and women who fought and died in the two world wars came from, and are commemorated in the local community, in cemeteries or named on memorials built and maintained by the CWGC.

Did you know we have 32 war graves in Knutsford cemetery covering personnel from both World Wars. Of the 32 graves, 7 served in the Cheshire Regiment with the graves representing all ranks and all the armed forces.

The CWGC was formed over 100 years ago. Every day they work to commemorate the men and women of the Commonwealth who gave their lives and ensure their sacrifice is not forgotten.

Knutsford Town Council is committed to making Knutsford Cemetery the best in Cheshire and we are striving to make a number of improvements through the Cemetery Management Plan.

It is sad therefore to have to mention that we have received reports of dogs being off the lead on the Cemetery ground and even worse that they have defecated on graves. This is appalling and disrespectful to the deceased and their families and incredible that this would be thought to be in any way acceptable in the Cemetery.

Please be reminded that the Cemetery Regulations state that although dogs are permitted within the cemetery they must be kept under strict control and on a short lead at all times. This is for their safety as graves may have been prepared for interments. The person in charge of a dog is responsible for cleaning up and appropriate disposing of any fouling that may occur.

We also have to mention, again incredibly, that we have received report of flowers being moved from one grave to another. Willfully interfering with any grave or vault, any tombstone or other memorial, or any flowers or plants on any such matter is against Cemetery Regulations also.
