The Filling Station - North Shropshire & Borders

The Filling Station - North Shropshire & Borders Meets 3rd Tuesday of month (excl Aug & Dec) 7.30-9.00pm Large carpark available. (Finish 9-9.30pm.) Zoom link available on request, for joining in online.

North Shropshire and Borders Filling Station meets on the 3rd Tuesday of each month, excluding August and December. We meet at Knockin Assembly rooms, just next door to the Bradford Arms pub, on the main road through Knockin. Fellowship, prayer and worship with modern Christian songs; the Filling Station has a vision of encouraging and equipping the church, the body of Christ, and giving them conf

idence in how they outwork the spiritual gifts. Each evening starts from 7.00pm with a relaxing time of chat while enjoying free tea, coffee and cakes, ready to start the meeting at 7.30pm. Several worship songs to begin with, and maybe someone might share a testimony about what Jesus has been doing in their life. Then a guest speaker with Bible-based teaching and a quiet reflection time afterwards, to pray together, go deeper, or just chat. Filling Station brings Christian renewal/evangelism to our area, and can give us more confidence to speak to our neighbours about Jesus.

Charles Ruxton had been given a message that he feared would make us ask him to leave! He had been stuck about what message to bring to The Filling Station - North Shropshire & Borders, and God kept saying he must tell us: "Give them a boot up the backside!"

The big question being, how do we pass on the Gospel to the next generation?

We are the holders of this precious gift; what are we going to do with it?

Young people are spiritually seeking. They want authenticity, honesty, they want to see real things; lives changed, not just being talked at. They are suspicious of our attitudes and motives.

Charles threw the question out to the floor and many gave their thoughts on how the church could change; to go out and meet the needs of people where they are.

Amen!

It was an experimental evening on Tuesday 16th June, to spend time together discussing thoughts about a passage from Ezekiel 47 about the waters flowing from the Temple, symbolising the flow of the Holy Spirit.

Brian asked: are we just ankle deep, in our comfort zone? Have we progressed to knee deep? On our knees in prayer daily or just on Sundays? Or maybe we've progressed to waist deep?
What stops us from going deeper?
Are we hanging on, holding back, wanting to stay in control of our lives?
Or can we be brave enough to trust God, totally surrender ourselves and go out of our depth?!

Philippa recounted Hellie Glynn teaching about this at the The Filling Station Deep Waters Gathering 2025:
Where the river flows, everything will live. Join the nets for a catch; our differences and styles don't matter - there will be places for the nets; find them and spread them. Go Deep. It will be intense, extreme, far beyond, there will always be more!
But also look to the source - everything is coming from God! Just look!... for the ridiculous amounts of wonderful things which are coming your way!

Jeremy likened the coming of the Holy Spirit to be like the pilot light on a gas boiler; a small flame, then a whoompf! when it ignites! Maybe we've been deeper in the Spirit in the past, but have stepped back. Be persistent and pray again. Keep that persistence and keep asking; like the parable of the persistent widow, God wants to know if we really want his gifts!

C'mon!

For May's meeting we had Chris Landau from ReSource as a visiting speaker. ReSource’s calling is to enable little, local and ordinary churches to engage with the Holy Spirit for renewal, discipleship and mission.
Chris spoke about Pentecost; the message from Luke 24: 'you will be clothed with power from on high'.
We are to be witnesses, even to the end of the earth.
Some observations:
1. Jesus represents a fulfilment of Scripture. Are we nurturing a relationship with the Bible and engaging with Scripture regularly?
2. The Messiah must suffer, then rise on the third day. Jesus has died for the forgiveness of our sins. Come honestly before God and repent, to be part of the freedom and life that Jesus offers.
3. The role of witnesses; open our hands to receive the good gifts. Be ready to be used, imperfect as we are. Be open to being empowered by the Spirit, say YES, change can start!
Remember that God needs ordinary people to speak to and spread the message to, ordinary people.
