Thanks to help from Orkney-Tech, we again have a functioning computer on the Audio Visual desk.
We intend to recommence live streaming of our Sunday Service on 30th August.

We are very grateful for this fundraising opportunity of a Takeover weekend at the Pop Hup Shop.
As well as teas, coffees and homebakes we will be offering mince rolls, soup and hotdogs.
There will be a raffle and a home bake stall, as well as lots of new items to rummage through!
Donations at the school on Saturday 5th only.
Any donations for the shop, home baking or raffles can be dropped off at the Church, or with Yvonne Widdal @ Marshburn, Dr’s Road anytime before 5th.

Blythswood Shoe Box Appeal fundraising Coffee Morning will be tomorrow, on Saturday 22nd August 2026, from 10am – 12 Noon at the East Church. Our speaker this year is Nick Crohn who is going to tell us about post war Kosovo.

Malawi Music Fund’s Songs of Mount Mulanje

Songs of Mount Mulanje is a collection of writing by the orphaned children and young people supported by Malawi Music Fund. It’s the result of creative writing workshops led by Orkney writer Yvonne Gray who accompanied MMF trustee Glenys Hughes to Malawi in April. The children come from the villages around Mount Mulanje, Malawi’s highest mountain. In a sequence of group poems – written in English with a sprinkling of Chichewa – they celebrate their natural environment while expressing concern – and hope – for its future.
This beautifully produced booklet contains a series of full-colour photos plus interesting and informative Notes and is published in a numbered, limited edition of 200. Songs of Mount Mulanje should appeal to anyone with an interest in Malawi, especially the ecology of Mount Mulanje and the threat from climate change. It’s priced £10 and all proceeds will help to provide educational opportunities for the children supported by MMF. To order, email [email protected] or contact Glenys on 87 2952.

Something completely different for 2 August!
On Sunday 2nd August, the congregations on the Mainland, the linked isles and Shapinsay have a choice of worship options.
While our normal services take place as usual (10 am at Kirkwall East and 12 noon in Shapinsay), many members of the united Orkney Islands parish are sharing a trip to Stronsay, to visit the worshipping community, to worship with them, and to see something of the beautiful 'Island of Bays' as it is sometimes called.
Take the 0840 ferry from Kirkwall 8 am from Shapinsay), returning on the 1740. Go as a foot passenger (a minibus will be available from Whitehall) or take your car. Take a picnic lunch, but coffee/tea and baking will be provided.
Morning service is at 1130 with a Songs of Praise at 1530, so plenty of time to be a tourist!
