Our Lady & St Joseph, Kirkwall Welcome to the Roman Catholic Parish of Our Lady and St Joseph, Kirkwall, situated in the Orkney Islands. Founded in 1877, and heritage to ~500 A.D.

We are the only RC Parish in Orkney and are part of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Aberdeen.

The next Mass at the Italian Chapel will be on Sunday 5 July 2026 at 3.30pm. There will no Mass on Sunday 7 June.

On Pentecost Sunday, Father Andrew celebrated Holy Mass in St Rognvald's Chapel within St Magnus Cathedral, for the parishioners of Our Lady & St Joseph. The Cathedral is being used for the celebration of Sunday Mass while Our Lady & St Joseph's Church is being redecorated.

Father Andrew celebrated Holy Mass on Tuesday 19 May at the Chapel of the Sacred Heart, Saville, Sanday. Since 1993, Mass has been celebrated in the chapel, which was established in the home of Maurice and Jean Soord by a decree of Bishop Mario Conti, the Bishop of Aberdeen. Thank you to David McLaughlin, Michael McLaughlin, Avril Cromarty, Alison Gray and all those who helped to clear the garage at Chapel House, in advance of the redecoration of the church.

Volunteers are needed from 10am on Saturday 16 May, to help store the pews, statues and other church furniture before the decorators can commence work on 25 May. If you can spare a hour or two, you would be very welcome.

Father Andrew bids farewell to Thomas Diffley, a medical student, who is returning to Aberdeen to finish his degree. Thomas, who has been in Orkney for two months, has been active in serving and reading at Holy Mass and helped Father Andrew to prepare the Holy Week liturgies. We wish Thomas every success as he completes his studies and keep him in our prayers.

Father Andrew welcomes Kevin Caffrey, a pilgrim from New Jersey, USA, to our Lady and St Joseph. Kevin’s pilgrimage started in Unst, Shetland, and will finish in Rome in October. Since he arrived in Orkney last week, Kevin has been following the route of the St Magnus Way from Egilsay to Kirkwall. Please keep Kevin in your prayers as he continues his pilgrimage.
