A huge thank you to the wonderful Cathy Smith for raising the funds that made today’s event possible! 🥰❤️

A massive shout-out to Garriock's Disco Orkney for providing the fantastic music and so generously giving up his time free of charge. You helped make the day extra special! 🎶🪩🥰

We were also delighted to welcome workers from the Finstown Substation, who presented us with a wonderful cheque. Thank you so much for your kindness and support! ❤️👏

It really was a fantastic day all round! 🥳 A huge thank you to everyone who helped make it happen including Peedie Kirk for letting us use your wonderful venue again 🥰
And of course, to our wonderful families who came along, danced, got creative with tattoos and face paints, and had a ball! 💃🕺🎨🎉

This morning we were delighted to be joined by 1st Kirkwall Company Boys' Brigade and Kirkwall City Pipe Band for the annual enrolment service. Rather fittingly this was on the anniversary of the founding of the Boys Brigade which was on 4th October 1883. This was the first year with the company's new leadership team led by Capt Neil Gordon. Thanks to Raymie who accompanied the hymn Christ be me light with his bagpipes

Part 2 of our celebrating 150 years in our current church building. We welcomed Revd Lyndsey Sanderson URC Synod of Scotland moderator, plus our friends from Shapinsay Kirk and the Linties. A most enjoyable lunch rounded the morning off.

How do you mark 150 years in our current building as part of our story that started in Laing Street in 1806? Well after a songs of praise earlier this year we could not let the opportunity of the annual visit of our good friends from Shapinsay Kirk pass by. All welcome this Sunday at 11.15 when our service will be led the Revd Lindsey Sanderson moderator of URC Synod of Scotland, we will be joined by local choir The Linties and will round off the day with a shared lunch

What better than a bit of repurposing during Creation Time (1 September to 4 October 2026). In 2006 we removed part of a couple of pews to make some turning space in the church The wood was turned into an Orkney Chair by Robert Towers. A few weeks ago we fully removed the two pews to make our space more accessible, especially for wheelchair users. Peter, one of our members has made two 'creepies' out of the wood and these had their first appearance in the church today

Tomorrow is the last chance in 2026 to attend one of our Orkney International Science Festival lunches. The 1pm toast will be made by Jane Hamilton from Ontario on her great great grand uncle John Rae. Table are laid ready, including our new chair colour coordinated napkins

Here's a few picture from Saturday lunch. The Mearns Singers were our flash choir at the lunch on Saturday and sang this song in church on Sunday. Lunches and one o'clock toast resume Monday at 12.30
