Why, Lord, do you stand far off?
Why do you hide yourself in times of trouble?
In his arrogance the wicked man hunts down the weak, who are caught in the schemes he devises.
Psalms 10 1-2
I have chosen this as I see it as very true to life today.
The opening lines shout out clearly how frustrated we can become. We see awful things all around us everyday and it makes us question why they are happening, or more so why they are being allowed to happen, by the Lord.

The Psalm goes on further to explore just these thoughts and the meaning of the words written so long ago could have been written today.
I have started our new posts quite brief with just a couple of lines. This is the type of message I am hoping to communicate with you. Each week a different section will be listed and I will share my thoughts.
Feel free to comment, tell me what you think.
Remember this is personal to you and if you think differently to others then who are any of us to say our view is the right one.
I will take the verses from the New International Version of the bible, so they are framed in more modern and easier to understand language.

What feels like a life time ago back in the 1980’s when I was a young student I can remember
reading St John’s Gospel for my Religious Studies A Level.
I would have been given a set passage or series of verses which I would look up in my New
Testament & the question would be quite vague and always ended with the phrase discuss and
then a set number 5,000 or 10,000 words which were required.
Back then with no other resources other than your bible and the main library in Liverpool and you,
this was a daunting exercise. Looking back at it now how much easier it would have been for the
internet on tap and every view of the verses imaginable at your finger tips. The outcome back in
the 1980’s probably had more of an impact on me as now over 40 years later I can still relate to
words and verses as I read the bible today in a deeper way than if I had simply looked them up
and thought about what others have said.
Over Christmas I have been thinking a lot about these set tasks I was faced with as a student and
the reading of verses and the dreaded word Discuss!
I will start on a regular basis posting thoughts on verses starting the end of this week. Dont worry
I wont force upon you 5 or 10,000 words, I will keep it a lot briefer!
I hope you all like my new postings. I will aim for
a post every few weeks and I look forward to reading any thoughts you have on the verses I chose!
As they say in media………. Watch This Space………….
First Post will be Friday 16th January.
The same post will appear on all 3 church pages
