KINROSS-SHIRE PARISH CHURCH OF SCOTLAND

THIS COMING SUNDAY IN PORTMOAK CHURCH.

Michael Bruce Commemoration: The annual Service of Commemoration for Michael Bruce, the 'Gentle Poet of Loch Leven', will be held in Portmoak Church on Sunday 28 June at 6.30pm. The service will be led by Rev Alex Johnson. Alex was recently appointed to the Team Ministry for Kinross-shire Parish Church with particular responsibility to serve rural Kinross-shire and Glenfarg. The preacher this year will be the Rev Robert Calvert who served as Locum during the vacancy.
Following the service a wreath will be laid at Michael Bruce's grave in Portmoak kirkyard, followed by refreshments.
The Scottish poet and hymnist Michael Bruce was born in Kinnesswood in 1746 and died at the tragically young age of 21. His birthplace in The Cobbles, Kinnesswood has been a museum since 1906 run by the Michael Bruce Memorial Trust.
Portmoak church itself is proposed for closure so come along to this service to commemorate and learn more about the poet, see the inside of the church - the least altered Parish Church in the county - and to meet the new minister, Alex Johnson.

KINROSS-SHIRE PARISH CHURCH OF SCOTLAND

A WELCOME to Emma, a Church of Scotland trainee minister who has joined us for a summer placement. We look forward to working with you over 10 weeks.

" Hello! My name is Emma Whitham, and I am delighted to be joining Kinross-shire Parish Church for my summer placement as a Church of Scotland trainee minister. Thank you all for the lovely welcome I have received.

I live in Perth with my husband, Paul, and we have three children - Hannah, Aimee, and Andrew. When I am not busy studying, you will usually find me outside. Being in creation is truly my happy place; I love long-distance walking and even a bit of wild camping! I also enjoy being creative at home, especially when it involves cooking up new recipes or settling down for some ‘crafting’.

For more than 20 years, I worked in the environmental sector, in roles ranging from policy development and programme management to education and grassroots action. This work fuels my passion for supporting transformational action towards local, resilient communities that are healthy and flourishing.

My prayer for this summer is to serve this church humbly, walk alongside you all, be a spiritual guide where possible, and spread my love for the Lord through all that I do. I am excited to get to know you all in the coming weeks!"
