A NEW CONNEXIONAL YEAR
Dear Friends,
As we step into a new Methodist connexional year, I have found myself noticing the small signs of the season turning. We are now in the 'Ber' months and so the early mornings feel a little cooler, the darker evenings have taken me by surprise and yet there’s that familiar sense of rhythm returning after the looseness of summer days.
It’s a time of beginnings, gentle ones, not the dramatic kind, the sort that invite us to take a breath, look around, and see what God might be unfolding next.
In the hymn “This, this is the God we adore,” we’re reminded of the steady, faithful character of the One who leads us. There’s something wonderfully grounding about that as we begin again. Seasons shift, routines restart, churches open their doors to all the midweek activities after summer breaks, and yet God’s faithfulness remains the constant thread running through it all.
I often think that September is a kind of “quiet spring” for the church, not because it is full of blossoms and birdsong, but because it is full of possibility. New groups begin, plans take shape, ministries restart, and yes, there has been changes within the structure of the Circuit.
It is my prayer that we rediscover the joy of being a people who journey together.
So as we enter this new year, may we do so with hope, curiosity, and a touch of lightness. Let’s enjoy the season we’re in, the cooler breezes, the fresh starts, the sense of God walking with us into whatever comes next. And let’s hold onto the hymn’s simple assurance that the God we adore is the God who sustains, guides, and delights in us.
