Managhti

Managhti 'Pronter' is celtic (kernewek) for 'priest'. We serve in a variety of contexts from parish to workplace but we also need our own monastic cell.

Priests ('pronteryon' in kernewek) serve in a variety of contexts, from parish ministry to the workplace. In addition to our more public ministry, we can create our own space, our own monastic cell or monastery ("managhti"). Here we can deepen our encounter with our living God; through prayer, worship, mediation, study, service or creative works. Stephen Ball is a priest in the Church of England,

serving in Diocese of Exeter at All Saints Church in Malborough, Devon. Managhti documents bits of this mysterious journey, these encounters. Launched on St Patrick's Day - Friday 17th March 2017

Saint Neophytos, the Recluse (Άγιος Νεόφυτος ο Έγκλειστος) of Cyprus.

After breaking the contracts of marriage, Neophytos went back to the monastery as a novice, becoming a tonsured monk in 1152. Although Neophytos felt called to be a hermit, his abbot declined to let him go, citing his youth. In 1158, however, Neophytos was allowed to make a pilgrimage to the Holy Land. While he was there he sought out hermits who might sponsor him, but to no avail. He returned to Cyprus, but still wanted to pursue the hermitic life. He tried to escape to Mt. Latmos in Asia Minor, but was arrested at Paphos upon his attempted embarkation. He was shortly released from prison, but the guards had stolen his travel funds.

Gathering from these misfortunes that it was God's will he remain in Cyrus, he made a circuit of the neighbouring mountains and soon found a cave in the side of a steep ravine. He was then twenty-five years old (AD 1159).

“God does not know things according to their own nature, but he recognises them as the realisations of His own will since He makes them through His will” His knowledge is nothing other than His love. If He ceases to love what exists, nothing will be. Being depends on love. "BEING AS COMMUNION” BY JOHN D. ZIZIOULAS
