Pillars in the Bible

You’re all invited to our Bible Study tonight at 8PM…Pastor Johnny will be leading the questions and discussions. Here are some key scriptures to read (if you have time).

* Genesis 28:18–22 (Jacob’s pillar)
* Exodus 13:21–22 (pillar of cloud and fire)
* 1 Kings 7:15–22 (Jachin and Boaz)
* Judges 16:23–30 (Samson and the pillars)
* Galatians 2:9 (pillars of the church)
* Revelation 3:12 (made a pillar in God’s temple)

1. What are the several functions of a pillar?
2. Which function of a pillar (support, stability, memorial, witness, etc.) speaks most to you and why?
3. How do you see God acting as a pillar in your own life?
4. What qualities make a Christian a strong pillar in a family, church, or community? Do you see yourself as a pillar?
5. Why does the enemy attack the pillars so much?
6. What causes people who should be pillars to become unstable?
7. What does God’s guidance through the pillar of cloud and fire teach us about following Him today?
8. Have you ever experienced a season where God clearly directed your path?
9. In Solomon’s Temple, the two pillars were named Jachin (“He establishes”) and Boaz (“In Him is strength”). What do these names teach us about God’s character? What is the lesson about church?
10. Which do you need more right now, God’s establishing power or God’s strength? Why?
11. If your life had a symbolic pillar name, what would it be and why?
12. How can our church become more like Jachin and Boaz for our community?
13. What lessons do you learn from Samson standing between the Philistine pillars in Judges 16?
14. What is the significance of a little lad leading Samson to the pillars?
15. How did Samson’s strengths and weaknesses affect those around him?
16. What “pillars” are people leaning on today that may collapse if they are not founded on God?
17. Revelation 3:12 says believers can become pillars in God’s temple. What practical steps can we take this week to become stronger pillars for others?
18. Why should the cross of Jesus unite all the churches together in Kilkeel?
19. Thought about last Sunday? Ordination Sunday, our new elders and leadership?
20. WHO ARE YOU SUPPORTING RIGHT NOW? Like a pillar? Who are you leaning on?

Come tonight @ 8PM for our Bible study. Briony will be leading the discussions. Here is some pre-reading and questions for tonight.
2 trees= 2 choices in life.

Pre read-
Jeremiah 17 5-9
Genesis 3 2-6
Deut 30 19
1 John 2 15
John 15 v5

Read Genesis 3 2-6: - what choice did eve and Adam have? What did they choose?

What does the phrase "be like God" mean? Their choice wasn't about fruit? What were they really choosing?
How might we still make the same choice today?

Read Deut 30 v 19
What was this choice? Is this choice still relevant today?

Read 1 John 3 v 15
What are the things of the world we can run to for support & meaning?

How do we make sure we don't trust good things while still recognise them as gifts from God?

How does this result in us becoming dry or lifeless?

Read Jer 17 5-9
What do think of when you hear the word "blessed" ?

The passage doesn't say there won't be heat or drought, it say we will continue to be green and bear fruit even in those seasons. What type of fruit might we bear in seasons of difficulty?

Read John 15 5
How can we remain connected to the vine?

Jesus says we can do nothing. Not some stuff. Don't poor standard. But nothing? Is that shocking? Hard to believe?

How are we tempted to do good works, stuff apart from Him?
How might that result in nothing?

Abide in Him. What's the difference between abiding and striving? How might we avoid striving (religion) by abiding (relationship)
How can we end up "bearing no fruit" while seemingly v busy for him?

How might we abide more in Him or how can we deeper into the river?

Why not try our church tomorrow? Starts at 11am. Pastor Johnny will be preaching about the HOMELESS KING. This message will help those who are going through a low place, a low season and a low time in their lives. Scripture shows how Christ does something special for us when we are in a valley. Please listen and be uplifted in Jesus Name. If you know anyone going through a spell of dark depression, this word is for you. We will be worshipping together and sharing fellowship. Welcome to our family, you’re all invited.

Come before church and grab a coffee from the hatch and prayer meeting in the cabin at 10:30am for anyone wanting to join.

Tonight’s Bible study is all about worship. We can be in silent pain and no one knows. We can be carrying hurt and not even family and friends see it. Pastor Johnny will be leading the questions and join us at 8PM as we dive into Habakkuk chapter 3…here are some of the questions. I have decided to worship anyway.

1. Why is worship so important?
2. Why do you think Job still worshipped after everything he lost?
3. Is it harder to worship during suffering or during success? Why?
4. Have you ever had to choose worship in a difficult season?
5. What does “worship anyway” look like practically in everyday life?
6. How can pain either push us toward God or away from Him?
7. What does Habakkuk 3 vs 17 & 18 teach us about worship?
8. I have decided to worship anyway. Worship is a decision.
9. What about the Trojan horse illustration? What have we allowed into our lives and it’s been our destruction? Subtle things that have come in and we are reaping the consequences.
10. Does God see my silent pain?
