Tues 12th May
Ray's thought for today Philippians 2:3

Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves.

This verse asks us to examine ourselves by Christ’s standards. He wants us to be quick at correcting our own defects. Compassion, kindness, meekness, humility and considering the needs of others are all character traits of a follower of Christ. Perhaps neither inward nor outward peace can truly be enjoyed without developing these characteristics.
And so I pray for us all today that God might help each one of us to grow in grace more and more each day.

Ray's thought for today, Friday May 8th. Psalm 1:1&2

Blessed is the one who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked or stand in the way of sinners or sit in the seat of mockers. But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night.

Psalm 1 is the gateway to the rest of the psalms. The “law” refers to all of scripture and to meditate on it is to think out its implications for life and living. To delight in it means not merely to comply, but to learn to love what God commands. Through Christ our attitude towards God is changed from one of duty to one of gratitude in a loving and self giving relationship .
Views contrary to God’s word are no anchor in a time of need. However God’s word will give us the resilience of a tree with a source of living water that will never dry up (verse 3).

Ray's scriptural thought for the day:
1 Peter 2:23

When they hurled their insults at him he did not retaliate; when he suffered he made no threats. Instead he entrusted himself to him who judges justly.

Christians are a people called to suffer and we should not be surprised when it comes our way. Christ voluntarily suffered, indescribably so, for us. Only through our own suffering can we begin to comprehend what He did for us, perfectly and patiently. Perhaps our attitude to suffering is what sets us apart; our witness to the world. For we know that whatever happens to us in this life is short lived compared to the eternal home we will one day go to.
The apostle Paul reminds us in 2 Cor 4:17 “That our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all”.

This wonderful song speaks of the grace of God that pursues us with God's goodness inspite of ourselves, not because of who we are. What can you do but worship the almighty and loving Father God?

It's bluebell time again. We are sorry you cannot be with us. But this photo from Saturday reminds us that God is still in charge and working out his purposes.

Proverbs 8:17

I love those who love me, and those who seek me find me.

This proverb is about having wisdom, and true wisdom, in scripture refers to Knowing God. Seeking Him gives us his wisdom for everyday living. May we all desire to seek our Saviour on this Lord’s day.

Saturday's thought for the day: Titus 3:1
Remind the people to be subject to rulers and authorities, to be obedient, to be ready to do whatever is good, to slander no-one, to be peaceable and considerate, and to show true humility towards all men.

How appropriate for these days , as we continue with lockdown may we all be witnesses living lives worthy of the gospel at this time.

Proverbs 28:10

Do not forsake your friend and the friend of your father, and do not go to your brothers house when disaster strikes you— better a neighbour near by than a brother far away.

Strange words you might think, but how very appropriate for our current situation. This proverb, rather than denigrating the importance of family ties, instead illustrates the value of neighbourly friendships. Our prayer is that we will all develop those friendships during this time even in our isolation.

On Sundays we are encouraged to view the same sermon. We then spend time in our in-house WhatsApp group sharing our thoughts. If our friends and visitors want to join in the conversation post your comments here on our FB page. Ray writes as follows: Hard to believe that another week has passed by and it is Sunday tomorrow. Might I suggest you Google Tim Keller Suffering. You will find a sermon entitled “If God is God then why does he allow Suffering, an exposition of 1 Peter 1:3-12.”

In addition Grace Church IOW will have their service at 10.30 am and All Souls, Langham Place, London at 11.30 am

Looking forward to hearing your views after the event .
Have a blessed day.
