Three crosses stood that day…
One for a sinner who mocked,
One for a sinner who believed,
And one in the middle… for the Saviour who saves.

The thief had no time to live a better life.
No opportunity to be baptised.
No chance to make restitution.
No good works to offer.

Yet… he went to heaven.

Why?

Because the Man on the middle cross said he could come.

“And he said unto Jesus, Lord, remember me when thou comest into thy kingdom. And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, Today shalt thou be with me in paradise.” Luke 23:42–43

In his final moments, that dying thief:

Acknowledged his sin, “we indeed justly…” (v41)

Recognised Christ’s righteousness — “this man hath done nothing amiss”

Called upon the Lord in faith

And that was enough.

“For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” Romans 10:13

He didn’t earn heaven.
He didn’t deserve heaven.
He simply believed… and received.

Salvation is not found in what we do, but in what Christ has done.

The cross was not only a place of suffering, it was a place of substitution and salvation.

The same Saviour still speaks today.
The same invitation still stands.
Will you call upon Him?

Because the only reason anyone enters heaven…
is because the Man on the middle cross says they can.

Why is it called “Good” Friday?

At first glance the name might seem strange. How can the day when the Lord Jesus Christ was crucified be called good?

From a human perspective it was a dark day. The sinless Son of God was mocked, beaten, and nailed to a cross. Yet from God’s eternal plan it was the very moment when redemption was accomplished.

The Bible reminds us:

“But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:8

On that cross, Jesus took the punishment that we deserved. The wrath against sin was poured out on the Saviour so that sinners like us could be forgiven.

“Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.” 1 Peter 2:24

That is why believers call it Good Friday. What looked like defeat was actually the greatest victory in history. The cross opened the way for salvation.

“For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.” 2 Corinthians 5:21

Because of the cross there is forgiveness. Because of the cross there is hope. Because of the cross there is eternal life for all who trust in Christ.

And the story did not end on Friday…
Sunday morning was coming.

✝️ Good Friday is good because Jesus died so that sinners might live.
