Shahjalal Islamic Centre and Masjid

Shahjalal Islamic Centre and Masjid Mosque and community centre for the people of Ipswich and Suffolk. We have now moved to a new location on Argyle Street in Ipswich.

Shahjalal Islamic Centre and Masjid (Mosque) in Ipswich is a registered charity and was established in 1994. The Masjid was established to serve the needs of the local Muslim community in Ipswich and surrounding areas (Towns and Villages in Suffolk). Over the years the Muslim population in Ipswich and Suffolk has seen exponential growth, to a point where worshippers have had to wait outside the Ma

sjid (due to lack of space) to take part in congregational prayers. The old Masjid on St Helens Street was not sufficient as it could only accommodate 150 worshipers in a single setting and ultimately the facilities were not fit for purpose and became obsolete. It was also expensive to maintain and heat, we could not accommodate sisters and had very limited services for the young and had limited car parking space for worshippers. We have moved to the iconic old college annex building. A listed building from the 1800's. We have renovated the inside of the building and have made significant changes. We can now accommodate just shy of 1200 worshippers, sisters included, have full services for our youth and have plenty of car parking space. We also have conference rooms and office space available for rent. We truly do have a beautiful Masjid and Islamic Centre open to everyone from all faiths and backgrounds.

Alhamdulillah, a total of 70 food boxes have been delivered to our local Asylum Seekers and Refugees community during this Ramadhan. A big shout out to the sisters who volunteered to do this act of kindness. Taking their time out to do the shopping, packing and distributing. And also big thank you to all those who donated towards this noble cause.

Assalamu’alaikum
Alhamdulillah, the moon has been sighted so therefore first Taraweeh will be tonight after Esha Salah (Jam’aat 7.15pm) Insha’Allah.
Just a few important points to remember when attending Taraweeh at our Masjid.
1. Please park your car sensibly without causing inconvenience to others. If you are praying 8 rakat, we suggest you park on the neighbouring roads.
2. After Taraweeh, do not gather at the car park, leave as soon as you can and minimise noise. We do not want complaints from neighbours.
3. As always, sisters are welcome. Segregated space and washrooms available.
4. Filtered water will be available on tap so bring your own water bottle and refill if you need to .
5. Please Wadu at home where possible to minimise queues in Washroom. Please clean up after use .
6. There will be provision for iftar this year. Anyone wish to provide or contribute please contact Chair.
7. Community Iftar (Brothers Only) on Monday 2nd March. Please register your name if you wish to attend.

Assalāmu ʿAlaikum,

We would like to personally invite you to a charity meal in support of a meaningful project that will, In shā’ Allāh, bring lasting benefit to our community. It would be an honour to have you join us and show your support.

The aim of this gathering is to bring brothers together in a beautiful environment—doing good work while seeking the pleasure of Allah ﷻ. We often meet and dine socially; this is an opportunity to do so while supporting our local masjid and contributing towards a cause of Ṣadaqah Jāriyah.

Charity Meal – Brothers Only

📍 Shahjalal Islamic Centre & Masjid
Ipswich, IP4 2NE

📅 Sunday 25th January 2026
🕗 8:00pm – First Sitting
🕙 10:00pm – Second Sitting
💷 Minimum £30 per person

This fundraiser is towards the development of separate sisters-only and brothers-only gym facilities at the masjid, with dedicated timetables that do not clash—ensuring privacy, comfort, and accessibility for all.

It will also provide a safe and welcoming space for sisters to socialise, connect, and build new friendships within the community.

An investment in health, dignity, and long-term community benefit.

A beautiful cause and an opportunity for continuous reward, In shā’ Allāh 🤍

Please let us know which sitting you are able to attend, and kindly share this invitation with others who may wish to support.
