Ten ways to let your little light shine!
Ten ways to be light in the world — Matthew 5: 14-16
(You can listen to this Daily Worship post at: sanctuaryfirst.org.uk/daily-worship/ten-ways-light-in-world)
Ten ways to be light in the world:
1: Cut your neighbour/friend/brother/sister/colleague/partner/parent/podiatrist some slack. Doing the right thing doesn’t always mean doing the massive thing. Your light shines when you change tack, round up, and give the benefit of the doubt. In such pockets of space wonders can emerge.
2: Take time to listen.
3: Take time not to speak.
4: Give away something that matters for something that matters more.
5: Give thanks to God, not just under your breath, but out loud.
6: Spend time with someone who could really use that time.
7: Give food to the hungry without judgement or qualification.
8: Laugh, sing, lament and sigh with the disheartened and the joyous.
9: Share your story of what God means to you.
10: Engage in the painstaking, creative and rewarding work of peacemaking.
Prayer:
Dear God
Being your light in the world
can be so simple
and yet so exhausting.
It can be straightforward in theory
but demanding in practice.
Take our little lights
we pray
and make candelabras.
Amen.
