*Eid ul Adha*
Wednesday 27 May 2026
*Prayer@invernessmasjid*
*First prayer* 7.30 am
*Second prayer* 9.30 am
*Third prayer 10.30 am*
*Preparation and Prayer*
Personal Hygiene: Perform Ghusl before the Eid prayer, brush your teeth (ideally with a Miswak), and apply perfume (Attar).
Attire: Dress in your finest, cleanest, and most modest clothes.
Fasting: Unlike Eid al-Fitr, it is a Sunnah to not eat anything before the Eid al-Adha prayer. Your first meal of the day should ideally be part of the sacrificed animal after returning home.
The Route: Walk to the prayer ground early and take a different route when returning home.
*The Recitation (Takbeerat)*
Chant the Takbeerat softly from the commencement of the days of Dhul-Hijjah right up until the end of the days of Tashreeq (before sunset on the final day of Eid).
The most common recitation is: "Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, La ilaha illa Allah, Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar wa Lillahil hamd" (Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest, there is no god but Allah, Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest, and to Allah belongs all praise).
*The Sacrifice (Qurbani)*
Execution: If you are performing a sacrifice, ensure it is done swiftly and humanely after the Eid prayer. The animal should not see the knife being sharpened or witness other animals being slaughtered.
Distribution: Divide the meat into three equal portions: one for your family, one for relatives and friends, and one to be donated to the poor and needy.
*Greetings and Social Etiquette*
Exchange Greetings: Greet family, friends, and neighbors by saying "Taqabbalallahu minna wa minkum" (May Allah accept [good deeds] from us and from you) or simply "Eid Mubarak".
Socializing: Visit friends and relatives to strengthen family ties, spread smiles, and give gifts.
Charity: Ensure that any obligatory charity or Zakat for the needy is sorted before the day's celebrations.
