Today, on St Columba’s Day, we give thanks for the life and witness of St Columba, whose faith, courage, and missionary calling helped shape the Christian story of Scotland 🕊️
More than 1,400 years after his arrival on Iona from Ireland, Columba’s legacy continues to inspire the Scottish Church, calling us to share the Gospel, serve our communities, and seek God in prayer and worship. 🙏
We are especially grateful for our beautiful “Life of Columba” kneelers, lovingly handcrafted by members of the congregation. These remarkable works of devotion tell the story of Columba’s life and ministry through skill, creativity, and faith, and remain a treasured part of our Cathedral’s heritage.⛪️
As we celebrate St Columba today, may his example encourage us to live faithfully, proclaim Christ boldly, and deepen our love for God and one another. 💙
O God,
who called your servant Columba
from among the princes of Ireland
to be a herald and evangelist of your kingdom:
grant that your Church, remembering his faith and courage,
may so proclaim the gospel,
that people everywhere
will come to know your Son as their Saviour,
and serve him as their king;
who lives and reigns with you,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, world without end.
Amen 🕊️
