We’re back!

Looking forward to welcoming you back to the cafe and group room bookings from Tuesday 8th June.

The Worship area will be closed for a little longer while lighting repairs are carried out and the scaffolding is removed.

Hi everyone, a quick update.

the Worship Area has been filled with scaffolding in preparation for work on the electrics located on the ceiling. This means that we cannot currently host any group that usually meets in there. Hopefully we will be able to dispense with the scaffolding soon and normal service can be resumed. We are very grateful for the rapid response of Croft Roofing who have been fast, efficient and generally brilliant!

The meeting of our Wednesday group - Gather Together will take place on 10th June at Ilkley Baptist Church at 2pm. We thank their Afternoon Meeting for their hospitality.

Hi everyone, due to work being undertaken in the worship area over the weekend, we have had to cancel Sunday’s service.

The Rev Peter Sheasby is leading 10:30am worship with our friends at Ben Rhydding this Sunday and it would be great to reconnect with you if you are able to get there.

A few days have passed since the lightning strike and some progress is being made in repairing critical systems like the fire alarm in preparation for reopening.

The electrician who came to inspect the wiring made some rather negative sounding tutting noises and the photocopier repair engineer who visited today, left the machine in two pieces muttering the words “not good” over and over again.

If things all go to plan, we may be open (after a fashion) from Wednesday, but this is not a guarantee as there are a lot of moving parts and obstacles to be overcome, so please check on here first if you’re thinking of popping in.

We have been very touched by all your good wishes and the jokes have made us chuckle. Thank you. ⛪️⚡️

Well that was loud! 😳 the strike blew the lightning rod off the side of the spire, arced into the wiring via the outside light above the Riddings Road entrance and blasted a large hole in the central heating pipe above the toilets corridor, causing water to pour through the ceiling!

It looks like our wifi routers are melted, as is the office pc and photocopier. So it looks like it’ll be a day or two to before we get back under way

We’re very thankful no one was injured, especially as some of us had been looking at the storm from that same doorway 5 minutes earlier! 😳 we’d appreciate your patience as we get things going again, we’ll keep you posted on progress and we look forward to welcoming you back.

PS - if you have any funny memes about; act of God, “it’s a sign!” Or smiting in general, now is the time. We could really do with a laugh! 😆

We had a report that the spire of Christchurch, Ilkley was hit by lightning this morning, which has blown the lightning conductor off the side of the building, damaging water pipes, causing a large leak in the toilet corridor. As a result the Christchurch Cafe Ilkley will be closed today.
